You won't catch me shopping there, a proper grocery store bags the customer's groceries and then follows them out to their car to load it.  When I was in Germany I was astounded by the lack of work being done by their employees.

The local IGA still does this, but they are the only one.  I worked there back in the late 80's and enjoyed the tips.

No it isn't or Hamburger Helper would go out of business. It's also more expensive to do it from scratch. Hamburger Helper .99 cents. Sour cream .99 cents, noodles, .99 cents, flour & butter .99 cents... It costs 3 times as much to make from scratch.

Hamburger Helper is just a cheap filler with flavoring. Keyword: cheap.

But that $3 will make 5-6 boxes worth of "helper" since they contains only @ 3 oz of noodles each.

Homemade is about 2x cheaper than boxed.

Guess that's why Betty Crocker went out of business.  :headscratch:

Logic as in simple math? You are just assuming the scratch made is cheaper because you are buying a bag of noodles making a bigger batch. It doesn't play out that way per serving. You forgot about tripling the cost of the other ingredients to make that batch.

Is the scratch made healthier? Probably (although stroganoff isn't a healthy dish to start with) and I'm sure it tastes better, too. But it's not cheaper and it takes longer to prepare. That's the whole point of the product. Cheap, quick and only 1 sklilet.

hamburger helper = cheap, quick, 1 skillet method for preparing something for the doggies.

There are a lot of things I would go without before I'd feed that stuff to my family. 'Bout the only thing worse would be to take them to McDonalds.  :old:

Yea, tuna helper FTW.  Use at least 3 cans of tuna though, and add half a bag of frozen peas when the timer is down to 4 min remaining.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Sometimes we make homemade "Stroganoff".. We call it, SOS gravy on egg noodles..
All you military guys will remember that stuff, right?.. It is cheaper to cook a bit more,
and freeze it in portions for later use, saves money and time in the long run..
We do this with a bunch of different dishes, alternate as we choose..

Made from scratch, great stuff, comfort food on a cold dark winter evening..

But the Corporate box full of preservative noodles, and metallic packet of Zyklon/B?
Gives me indigestion from hell, and leaves me sitting on the crapper all day, every time!

We have been able to quit using meds for stomach problems, since we
stopped eating that process food crap.. Problems just vanished, amazing!
Big sign right there..

It does store well tho.. :lol
