Gotta break this one down frame by frame:
1) Justified by the story. It's an island surrounded by storms controlled by the PMSing soul of a long-dead body-surfing queen trapped in the corpse of her last host. For at LEAST 2000 years anything that arrives is trapped there. So yeah, there's going to be a good bit of junk left lying around.
2) The setting stuff on fire is mainly to complete challenges and there's not much in the ACTUAL plot that requires it aside from a few puzzles/roadblocks. And is the guy who wrote this is a member of PETA?
3) The locals are a cult of psychotic killers worshipping said PMSing body-surfing queen, many of whom have spent years trapped on an island with no modern conveniences. Like soap. And Lara herself doesn't exactly get through the game sparkling clean. Quite a few sections end up with her covered head to toe with mud or blood (much of it her own).
4) Yes, the tombs were one of the weaker parts of the game. They're also "only" an optional encounter so you don't NEED to complete them to finish the game. And under the circumstances, I think Lara is a bit busy trying to survive to worry about the 99% of the chest SHE CAN'T CARRY ANYWAY.
5) TBH, they're exaggerating. There's certainly corpses scattered around the island, but the main dwelling areas are (relatively) corpse-free. The couple areas where you DO have mountains of corpses are in an Oni's cupboard, and shrines where the cultists perform human sacrifices.
6) To be fair, Lara doesn't cause most of the explosions. Directly. And that plane was doing just fine until the PMSing body-surfing queen threw a tantrum and shot it down. And I don't think anyone would really complain about her burning down the Shanty Town (which she didn't even do. Directly).
7) Ok, this was my main complaint about the game. Too much emphasis on combat. Not that it wasn't handled well mechanically (it was) or fun, (very) it just didn't really fit the narrative. Still trying to wrap my head around how Lara managed to turn a Type-100 submachine gun into an AK-47 with a bunch of scrap metal and ANIMAL PARTS.
8) To be honest, I never played the games this one gets accused of ripping off (ironically, THOSE games were accused of ripping off Tomb Raider in the first place). And frankly, even if it DID borrow elements from other games, that doesn't necessarily mean they've all been seen TOGETHER before. He's also exaggerating the number of QTEs significantly (most are more accurately considered Action Prompts rather than true QTEs). And considering just how stale the "classic" Tomb Raider format got by
1999 it needed a change, anyway.
I wonder if the guy's ACTUALLY played the game. Sounds more like he's riffing on the CliffsNotes version.
