Nice stuff Carver, especially the Steelhead. Just curious, what do you charge for something like that?

And Madda, your Einstein is fantastic so far.  :aok

That piece retails for $2200.00 CDN..  Native Art is a keystone market here in Canada, and I would assume everywhere else so I get half. Still it took 4.5 to 5 days so thats a really nice week! And thanks Devil appreciate it!

And Maddas work just blows my mind.

Thanks guys, there's actually tons of great stuff in this thread.  I really dig the carvings and the 3d modeling some guys are doing.  That's impressive stuff to me.  I appreciate the kudos though gentlemen, thanks.

I love seeing people's artwork.

There are a lot of books that teach the techniques of how to paint well.
I got a book about how Boris Valejo does his paintings and it set me up with what I needed to know.
Much later I got a book that showed how Robert Taylor setup his aviation paintings .. and he uses the same techniques as Boris :)

Basically ..prep the canvas with a few coats of Gesso.
It fills the weave and leaves a matte white base to work from.. so your colors look great.

Then do a pencil sketch of what you want to paint ..
..you can project an image onto the canvas to sketch copy outlines
..and an accurate image will get you the correct perspective angles an the like.

Then it's a matter of makin the color look 'right' ..
..with Acrylic on posterboard it's a much faster process ..I did this in 4 hours, start to finish:

..while Stiletto's A-land Spit 9 took me 3 months.
(of course, it was 4' by 2.5' canvas and that is only one of the 4 shown takin off at sunrise :)

Thing is .. you don't have to draw many straight lines :)
With the right techniques you can just rock on.

GE, you know Stil still has that picture.  He posted a shot of it to the muskies list not so awful long ago.

some very cool stuff :)

Ink: Workin on skin sounds like fun :)
-wiggle-wiggle-wiggle ..'I work OUT!'
-evil grin-

What used to bum me out about doin cars-bikes an the like ..
..I'd do a real knockout image, just killer .. and the guy would roll the car
or get T-boned in an intersection on her bike .. had the worst luck.

Oil was intriguing ..it is completely opaque and you can make it dry slow or fast
..you can work with it to get the right shade for *days*
..and the detail you can put in is mind boggling.
That Stiletto Spitfire ..I was doing the colors of the iris of pilots eyeballs with a pin ..
..I stepped back and decided I was done ..on a 4 foot canvas :)
The color dynamic range is very close to what the eye can see, the only thing it cannot do
is light.. but a gesso wash will make the whites bright enough that a photograph does not do it justice.

So if you're a perfectionist and a bit obsessive ..oil rocks :)
It will let you do it right.. it just takes time :)

For paints, I prefer oil. I can leave my paint out and I won't dry. With acrilic, it can't take hours to sometimes get the shade of color was using and most
of the time it isn't perfect.  :furious
