Text Buffer and Private/Personal Messaging
« on: April 21, 2013, 05:47:33 PM »
I think it would be cool if we had some additional settings regarding in game text buffer.

I was thinking about an option that could be enabled/disabled for those wishing to use it and those who do not.

It would be nice to have some advanced options regarding the text, so that players could set the colors for the specific channels themselves if desired.

Also adding an ability to set the color of the text in 200 based off the players country. As an example you could set Rooks to light blue, Knights to white and Bishop to red.

Additionally you could set the Country Specific Text Color, to simply the names of the players, or if desired the entire line of text they write.

This would also apply to VOX, so the players names appear in the colors that you set for the different countries.

Regarding private/personal messages in game, it would be cool to have the ability (yet again player's choice to enable/disable) to allow private messages there own window.

So instead of having another separate text buffer taking up screen space, the current text buffer could have a second page. The text buffer that we use could have a button (mapped to your key of choice as well)

that changes the entire buffer from page 1 to page 2.

Page 2 would have multiple empty tabs, and when a player sends you a private message, it would appear in a blank tab, and your conversation would be unhindered by any other channels.

If you are monitoring page 1 of the text buffer (200|country|range|squad|vox) and you receive a PM, a small tab on the top of the buffer would flash, clicking that tab would change the buffer to page

2, allowing the message to be read, or pressing the key that was mapped to page 2.

Tabs would be limited to 5 per page. If it happens that all 5 tabs are in use and you receive a private message from another person, page 3 would automatically generate with 5 new tabs.

One window being filled by the player who just messaged you.

When you close the conversation (if it is the only remaining one) page 3 would automatically disappear again.

Private Conversation tabs would be cleared every time you log off, the player who sends you a private message would have his/her name or text colored to the country based settings I discussed earlier.

I am implying the addition of a color wheel, palate or sliders that allow customization, and being able to apply that customization to users of 200 channel. So if I moved the sliders and made Rooks pink, every rook who types in 200 channel would have a pink name, a pink name in a VOX channel identifying them to me as a rook, and would have a pink name when I receive a personal message. Including the option to limit the color coding to the name, or the entire text of the persons message.

quite a few of the things you mention can already be done  :old:

To my knowledge there is no way to do the following currently....

#1 Customize the text or names of the players talking on 200 channel to be color coded for country identification

#2 Designated place for private messages that is free from all other in game chat/channels/system messages.

#3 Private messages being separated by sender/conversation, with multiple conversations active at one time.

#4 Flashing tab or some sort of system in place to alert you to private messages, so none are missed.

#5 The name of each person in your VOX shown in the color of the country they belong to.

#6 Any type of settings menu with text buffer color control tools for any and all in game channels. ( example; everything in "Range" I could set to be displayed as bright red. Text,Names, voice communications and highlights.)

This you can already do. Create a seperate tab for private messages only.
Steam: DrKalv
E:D Snailman

In November 2025, Lusche will return for a 20th anniversary tour. Get your tickets now!

but there is no way to have it automatically do this when a random private message is received though right?

Thanks btw for telling me that Lusche, I will check it out.

Just checking, do you know that you can drag tabs out to create their own window?
