Depends on what you want to use it for. the iPad is a Tablet, and the Surface is a computer based on a Tablet style, at least that is my understanding. If you need something with computer type functions and want the screen touch style of the tablet, then it is the Surface. I have the iPad and really like it for what it does, but it is not a Laptop.
