Project OXCART
« on: April 29, 2013, 02:41:38 PM »
How do you move a top secret aircraft from a major metropolitan area to it's new home? With a truck! The story chronicles the efforts to build and use the carriages repeatedly to move the fully built A-12s and the YF-12s from Lockheed's Skunkworks in Burbank to Area 51 back in 1962. Eighteen trips were made to Area 51 and three trips were made to Palmdale to carry the first three SR-71s built. It has some amazing pics.

Good stuff, thanks.

I would love to see some film on it. The truck looks like a 1961 Kenworth that most likely had a 220 Cummins and a twin transmission like a 6 x 4. That was some old school trucking. :old:
