The Shell House Raid
« on: April 30, 2013, 12:48:30 AM »
Up on YouTube now, the story of the brilliant but tragic raid on Gestapo HQ, Copenhagen, by Mosquitos of the 2nd Tactical Air Force in March, 1945.

Centres on an interview with Ted Sismore, who led the raid and who passed recently. The footage over the city is genuine, however there's various stock shots mixed in, some sequences from the Philips raid in 1942, looks like some Coastal Command stuff as well.

The lines of parked Mosquitos are from 487 Squadron, hence have the same EG markings as Jerr Yagen's recently-rebuilt KA114. Those particular shots are from early October, 1943.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB
