I met Wil Wheaton back in 1988 right when Star Trek TNG was getting going in season 1, he was in Calgary and at the Tower restaurant with Michael Dorn who played Worf, doing a celebrity auction for the new children's hospital back then. We met while playing the Spy Hunter stand up arcade game, we'd both escaped from the hoity toity function to have some fun at the same time, and he plunked in about 5 bucks of quarters to be a jerk and steal the machine out from under me, not realizing I had done the same already with a few bucks. I decided to be a nice guy and let him play next after my first credit was over, then did a double take when I saw who it was. He laughed and said I was the first person in Canada who had recognized him and knew his name instantly, Star Trek being a big deal in my house.
He was a really nice guy back then, it's too bad he decided to leave the show and end up being on the "D" list for the rest of his career. After being in some pretty big movies, like Stand by Me, it's a shame how he never went on to be an actor that got bigger roles.
