Thanks everyone, and especially thanks to those that served or are serving.

I'm in the delayed entry program, so I get to work out and study for 9 months as I finish up high-school.

Surviving until my ship-date is the hard part. I think once I make it to basic, the easy part begins for me.
(Not that Basic/AIT will be easy, but I enjoy challenge and learning.)

No, not yet. I know my MOS training will be at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri, as I'm told all 12B's are made there.

ENJOY the time you have while you are still free! I know how your mindset is cause i was there too. But take the time between now and your shipdate and go hang out with your friends, travel around and have fun. You'll miss it.

Also, you should be doing Engineer OSUT at Lenoard Wood, so you'll do both Basic + AIT there at the same time.

I had assumed that I would be doing both basic and AIT there, but I haven't been able to confirm that. It makes sense to, but we'll see.

I'd love to get out and do things, but I'm concentrating on school and buying a car. It's kinda hard when you're a full time student with a part-time job and technically homeless. I have a roof and a mat for now though, so I'm doin' pretty well.

Regardless, I'm enjoying the little things (like keurig coffee, it's made by magic) but I'm excited to finally have my future in line for me.

Now is the time

Good idea

Bad idea.  If you get shipped to Korea, Germany, etc you will be making payments on a vehicle that you won't even lay eyes on for at least a year...

I have a decent savings built up for a 'minimum wage warrior', a little over 2k since I started my job. I figured I'd buy me something to last at least until my ship date. I'd be a good step forward for me.

Congrats man, I'm enlisting next year. I was really considering 12B but decided I'm going to try to go for heli pilot, however chances are by the time I get there next year (18th B-day is in may) all the WOFT positions will be full, so I'd either have to wait until next year or go try to go in as another MOS for a few years until I can reclass and hope a spots open. If I can't initally get into heli's I should be signing as a 31B :)

Conrgatz again! :salute

Heli pilot, not bad I'm enlisting after I finish college to pursue my dreams of being a fighter pilot! Only 3 years left!  :salute

As an eight year veteran of the Army and Air Guard, the best advice I can give you is to stick with 12B right now and quit worrying about your long-term career until you've finished AIT.  It is far too early to be worrying about it right now.  Yes, it is a pain in the butt to reclass; however, doing so as an E4-E5 with a few years of practical experience is far better.  Just my 2c.

Thank you. Your 2c is worth 2mil to me.

I wish I could have taken the 19K spot that they had, but it was 10 days from my projected graduation date whereas they needed 14+ days.
I'm not entirely sure that 12B is right for me, but I'm sure AIT will change my mind on that when the time comes. I agree that it's too soon to
be worrying about my long-term career; the only thing I'm worrying about is surviving until my ship-date.

Regardless of my MOS, I'm excited and happy to have chosen this path with my life. It'll suck at times, I'm looking forward to those times just
as much.

Personally I'd hope you pick something other than Combat Engineer, but somebody has to do it. Good luck. :salute
