Well I jumped off the ledge & bought the DoubleSight DS-279W monitor that I posted a link to earlier.
So far this thing is a beauty to behold. Got reading up on the company before I bought it....DoubleSight's speciality is building business-class multi-monitor set ups for the business world but also offer models that are suited for business/home use (such as this one).
Compared to the Dell U2713H & the ViewSonic V2770 (direct comparison units) it matches up feature for feature w/ the exception of the USB interface capability, has actual buttons under the bezel...no touchscreen. The DoubleSight is heavier than the other 2 by 2-3 lbs but is approx. $130.00 or more less than the others as listed on Newegg (DS-279W listed on Newegg for $613.99, ViewSonic V2770 listed for $749.99 & Dell U2713H listed for $999.00). I know you can find these units elsewhere cheaper than the Egg but I couldn't find another carrier of the DoubleSight products (other than DoubleSight's site which it goes for $699.99....cheaper on the Egg) to make the comparisons relative. This monitor offers PIP capability thru the VGA & DVI-D ports but ole Pudgie don't need that right now but nice to know that the feature is there. After dealing w/ Newegg for approx 13 years in this hobby of mine & have never had a problem w/ them I just tend to stay w/ them. My local option is Best Buy where I live & that ain't an option as they are SOOOOO FAR behind the tech curve compared to the Egg it ain't funny!
I got a perfect panel (no dead pixels, no bright spots, no IPS glow, no burn in issues)....now I see why IPS panels are preferred! The response times & input lag in-game is near perfect....this monitor is actually far better than the HP 2710m TN panel it replaced in this regard as I have not witnessed any ghosting even when I make quick stick moves over water (could see some slight ghosting on the HP 2710M when I did this over water & it is rated at 2.5ms GTG response time vs the DS-279W at 6ms GTG response time. As far as input lag goes I couldn't see/tell any difference between the 2) & this HP 2710m was a pretty good performer. The smoothness of motion along w/ the color reproduction & sharpness of detail is simply AWESOME!
The display is simply GORGEOUS & the 2560 x 1440 x 32 res let's the Titan flex it's strengths. I'm taken aback at how good I can SEE things on screen w/o my glasses! So far my FPS has stayed at 59-60 at fully maxed settings regardless w/ the Titan at stock settings. I finally went into my Rampage IV Gene & set up the normal OC profile instead of the stock X.M.P. profile so my I7 3820 is clocking 4375 GHz now instead of 3873 GHz & doing it w/ ease & which further helped the Titan to perform even better.
The 1 thing that I did have some issue with was setting up the monitor initially to use DVI-D. The monitor came w/ no paper manual to read (manual on the DVD). Since this monitor is designed w/ businesses in mind (read IT personnel here) I found that it doesn't have the auto signal select feature as my HP did & the bezel buttons have multi-function capabilities other than what is engraved on the bezel above them. I initially hooked her up w/ DVI-D cabling to the DVI-D port on the monitor & vid card but the monitor kept showing a no signal found box & going into sleep mode. I was following the engraved button labeling & thought I was setting it up but got nowhere. After 3 hrs trying (swapping vid cards as well to verify that it wasn't the Titan) I swapped to the VGA cable to see what would happen & it lit up.....? When I popped in the DVD to load the drivers I then read the manual....saw that I was hitting the wrong button to save the config choice (once you use the select button the vol+ button becomes the save button....)....VGA is the default setting.....duh! Shut down, pulled the VGA cabling & adapter off, hooked the DVI-D cabling back up the way I had initially had it & then proceeded w/ the RIGHT button sequencing & voila! All is golden since. Now I see why many IT folks switch careers so frequently...............
Other than this little gem of an issue all went well & I'm very happy w/ this piece of kit.
Can you find cheaper.....yes you can................
