Control I, include ping please!
« on: May 30, 2013, 11:19:08 PM »
Control-I
It puts a bunch of info, including screen refresh rate, etc...

Please get rid of the 'idiot light' on our dash, I cant even see it on my 109 cockpit, its not only down too far but behind the stick too.
Or don't remove the light, JUST PLEASE HAVE CONTROL-I SHOW OUR PING!

Helps a guy with an unstable connection know when he's at risk of being disco'ed.  :frown:

ALSO, if we do get booted, a lot of times, I still have screen with the booted window, and the 'save film' option but it wont let me save because it disappears too soon.
CAN WE GET AN OPTION TO SAVE THE FILM AFTER BOOTED/DISCO'ED PLEASE!!! Besides, this might help fix a bug sometimes...
Not that I record everything but sometimes, rarely actually, I wish I could have saved film after being booted/disco'ed.

not sure what that's supposed to do besides piss someone off... as it is, your post is probably going to get moved to the "wishlist" section of the forums, which is where it belongs.

the "idiot light" you're referring to is 1 of 3 indicator lights (combat trim, auto pilot, beacon) in that small out of the way cluster. they are useful and would be totally out of place anywhere else.

I will say that the booted system for when after booted, and log back in, the game does a great job of putting us back in flight.
Thank you for this recent upgrade.

The topic for today is to get the becon light to where we can see it.
It doesn't warn us if we can't see it. One way to do this is to have our ping show on the control I thing!

From a happy paying customer, that I guess dares not joke with the staff!

i see we have another winner...

because you're new...the indicator lights have nothing to do with your internet connection. i know, it's sad, but the good news is they can be seen once you learn to move the view within the cockpit. doesn't require staring at any of them either. takes just a millisecond or so to see the light and determine what action you want to take to make it turn off or on, whichever.

p.s. the a-hole that wrote this...does not work for hitech creations. just fyi in case there was any question.

it doesnt matter where the beacon light is.  if you are gonna get booted then perhaps you should look at why you got booted in the first place.  and by that I mean, let's say that if you gonna get booted then your screen flashes red.  what exactly you gonna do?  there's nothing you can do.  so the position of the light is not really a problem but more of you gotta fix whatever the problem is on your end.

btw I was under the impression that if you got film recorded on that your film would get saved if you get disco'd.

This is true. has happen to every disco I have had.

:rofl   :lol  it's hell when you run into a bigger donkey than yourself isn't it... by the way, "paying customer" is not automatic entitlement to certain behaviors...just sayin.

i can understand the desire to have ping rate shown on the frame rate display, it makes sense. it would allow you to easily monitor your connection, it wouldn't prevent a disco, nor prepare a person for a disco as they tend to occur spontaneously and immediately. one second you're flying along fine and the next, bam, your disconnected. having the information readily visible on demand would be useful.

the beacon indicator light on the other hand is mostly useless, especially if you're getting disco'd due to your internet connection. by the time it goes red, it's too late to do anything.

Ping times are no indication of impending disco. The beacon light, I believe, indicates issues with dropped packets and you'll most likely also get warning of losing UDP. Losing enough packets due to connection issues is what leads to a disco, not strictly ping times. You can also check the net status from right-clicking the clipboard. Net status shows ping and data graphs.

There are more than just "INSTANT BOOTS" only, mr.troll/ankle biter/donkey/HATER? lol
Sooo according to you, one lil "work work" comment and im branded for life as a "certain behaviors?"
SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL HTC THIS STUFF, IM POINTING OUT THE OBVIOUS HERE!
Maybe HTCs never had to deal with a cheapo shared overloaded wifi like some of us?
ONLY DONKEY AROUND HERE IS YOU GAYRENE81!!! LOL HAHAHA

The game WoT has about 31,865 customers logged in at this moment.
in game, top left corner, are ONLY two computer informations:
FPS = ## and Ping = ###     <--- both very useful.
but what do they know?
In game, Usually my ping is 130 to 200ms about.
Sometimes is much higher to even 700-800ms, game will be freezing and stuff. <--- good time to RE-LOG and see if fixes, if not, go do something else.

Ofcourse, the two games have different code.
Same internet though, and my same unstable WIFI connection! (too many people logged on sometimes.)
Sooo some warning to land my plane before I am booted would be nice!
Beacon is nice, but can't see it, and actual ping numbers would be better, on screen and not clipboard would be best.

I understand that we all like 'lifelike' screen for a more full 'immersion,'  without all kinds of computer stuff to remind us that we are playing a game.
But I for one keep "control I" screen up for info like if "clouds" are killing my frames.
Having this have PING would be great too.

Ok, packet loss, I can see that, another info on screen might be good too? "packet loss %" ???
FPS, PING, and PACKET loss percentage?!?!?

one day when I'm caring about score, an emergency landing or ditch might even save the flight!

my dam wish and im entitled to wish it... or is that not what this section is for???

WIFI is about the worst to play games over. you will have ping rate that are all over the place.

You said you have a computer that is better than most in one post, post your specs. Go to Start, and in the text box type DXDIAG at the top click on the program DxDiag. After it has run there is a button on the bottom that says "save all information..." click on that and save it to your desktop or some place you can find it. Close the Dxdiag window.

Now double click on the file you just saved. Copy the first third, up to AND INCLUDING "SOUND DEVICES", and post it here. If you try to post the whole thing you'll get an error of trying to post too many characters and only the first third is really needed.

Games like WOT and such take much less computer resources to run because they have such small "worlds" as compared to Aces High.

i did say i was the bigger donkey didn't i?  :rofl

although wot has a lot of people logged in at their staging point, there aren't 300+ on the same 500 mile map...each battle is broken down into smaller groups on very small maps. a much lower load on not only your system but, your connection as well. you're not streaming nearly as much data in wot as you are in the main arena here, and that means less data to get lost in transit.
as far as playing on a home network where other people are gaming and/or streaming stuff, a lot of network activity can cause you some connection instability but not nearly as much as using wifi under the same conditions. just last week i talked to a guy that was having connection problems on his home network using wifi, turns out his smart phone was the culprit, not his wife watching netflix. there are some things you can do to improve wifi performance including decreasing the distance from the router. adjusting the beacon times on the wireless adapter and router can make a difference. a router and wireless adapter with a high data rate (300+ mbps) can help too. the best option is and always will be a wired connection.

personally, having the ping rate displayed on the screen in the system display would be a nice option...

Gyrene: I said you are the 'only donkey'
I know what you are now. It's obvious... too bad, so sad! Type some more, and say anything and everything but the truth - you are a coward in my book. SAY THE TRUTH of why you follow me around TROLLING.

Fugi:
we are almost on same page, partly, saying the same thing, WIFI sux!
Yes, WIFI sux. Consider that millions of people across the globe use WIFI.
Maybe not HTC, so maybe they are 'over looking' some fine tuning?

HTC GUYS:
HOOK UP A 'G' WIFI' and also an 'N WIFI' so you will know what some of your players are going through.
I move in about 2 months, but for the meantime:
$33 per month and its not mine, I can't change it, wont buy my own - not yet.  AT&T 'N' here, not even 'u-verse' which is $50/month. When a 9th person trys to log on, I think someone else gets 'instant boot' - its like musical chairs here.  If it has a lot of people near max logged on, then it just sux. (blah blah, I work 50hrs+ a week and very busy so not on that much anyways, moving soon too, so not tripping so much for now! This is for the good of the game, not just me!

Get a similar set up, or just take my word for it, that a PING time display is a great tool for knowing when your connection has taken a turn for the worst.\
You guys being experts probably know this better than I do but you don't experience it!
Again, I think the recovery from a boot works great, thanks! But it doesn't change my ping or the cause that got me booted. Can only help me by warning me!

KINDA LIKE GETTING ENGINE TROUBLE!!! and HAVING TO GO LAND!!! Indicator please!

To everyone:
So do we agree that it should be shown in 'control I' section? So a player can have it up there on screen if he wants to?
That in a large player base game like this, it is even more important to know how our ping is doing!

Maybe that super warpy guy would have a clue that his connection has issues at the moment, or just always.
