The former is more fun to fly...........while the latter is boring <yawn>.

You flew the latter in AHII when? It was fun in AW. Realizing, of course, that it's dogfighting
on steroids. Still guns on. No guided missiles.  :aok

Bingo! You think it's hard to get a firing solution on a jinking target at 300 ias? Try doubling that.  :devil

Difficulty in the KW arena in AW wasn't increased by the magnitude you're suggesting. If anything,
'jinking' was less pronounced at higher speeds. I do remember a lot of dedicated KW RR players
stopped playing that arena much when it went FR. It was the blackouts, spins and stalls. I don't
know if Kesmai ever modeled g-suits accurately or not.

A FF stick made a huge difference. Without one you were giving inputs the aircraft would never have allowed in reality unless you were The Hulk, especially in the MiG. AW also didn't have the radar sight in the F86, if I recall correctly. Not saying AW is the best example for a Korea sim, but it's the best I've played. That 2nd Gen era seems to be skipped over by everyone and it was the pinnacle of gunned dogfighting.

Jets never provide a really fun experience unless they are dumbed down, like in the battlefield games; otherwise they are just too fast and freaky for the kind of aircombat most would enjoy.

That's why WW1 air combat stuff is actually *the* most fun for all; because there are only slight differences between planes and on the whole, the experience seems more balanced. But it certainly lacks the "cool" factor that ww2 has (which is why it has a hard time attracting the youth).

Jets - too cool, not enough combat.
Biplanes - not cool enough, too much combat.

Au contraire, mon frere. We're talking Korea. Not Vietnam. Not Splashing Libyan jets with F-14s.
The art of dog-fighting was still practiced, usually by pilots who learned it in the previous war.

If you want WW1 just play Rise of Flight, it's free and it's got decent graphics

HTC should focus on keeping AH the best online WW2 flight sim imo
Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

Question to Lusche.

Would it be possible to find out how many players have been in the WWII arena as a whole since it's creation? Then compare that to the other arenas?    To see how much usage each arena gets, and then to see if the WWI arena is popular or not.   :P

Just my thoughts.

there was about 300 players in ww1 arena the first few weeks.  after a couple of months there were only a few at any one time that I have seen.
