They built them with only 3 engines - & in 1963? Nah..

There is a 100 raid Lanc' in the National Museum in Canberra, Australia,
but it's always had the 4 Merlin mills.

& its set up in a cool light-show scenario being attacked by an original 109G..

Dude this lancaster was found with no engines, it was in this barn for 20 years, with no care for it, it was rusted to hell, lol...this plane was basicly scrap metal when they found it,.....after all that, it has all engines, and that,....This costed alot alot of money, and took alot alot of years, the only funding they got were from donations.....so i think they made amazing progress with this lancaster :)....lol this plane did not fly in ww2, it was built in 1945, but the war ended so this was used for Canadain Search and rescue im pretty sure for a few years, then they put away this lancaster in storage and they removed the engines, and alot of other things , and i guess some farmer bought it, and for some reason it was abanded in the barn, ....lol gotta love good old war birds like these

It’s been 59 years since the Lancaster bomber in Nanton (Alberta) had all four engines running.

This summer, the Bomber Command Museum of Canada in Nanton completed the task of getting all four engines up and running on the Lanc, and although the museum showed the restoration at the Salute to the Legion in August, the museum will be holding a special event to officially celebrate it Sept. 20-21.

Bomber Command Museum of Canada will be holding the “Firing-Up Four” that will have the Lancaster startings and run-ups of the Merlin engines on Friday evening at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, there will be a celebratory program beginning at 11 a.m., followed by engine run-up at noon.

The runup will also be held at 2 p.m., along with a demonstration of the Bristol Hercules engine, with its run-up.

The restoration of the four engines has put the Lancaster FM159 in a rare position.

It has become one of only four Lancasters in the world that is fully run-able, said Bomber Command Museum of Canada president Rob Pedersen.

Expansion plans for the museum will include a huge tarmac that will allow taxi-ing of the Lancaster, as well as planes such as the Mosquito, Anson and  Halifax.

Lanc fans may find this site as fascinating as I do:

http://www.lancasterbombers.net/index.html

(Click on the Enter button at the bottom of the page.)

Contains scans of original loss cards and scans of full raid reports. I believe these were the source files for Chorley's Bomber Command Losses and Middlebrook's Bomber Command War Diaries respectively. There is an abundance of material in the raid reports which was not in Middlebrook however, including maps, reports of combats, details of timings, weather, post-raid recce and bomb damage assessment, etc.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

My great Aunt in England was like a grand-mother to me.   She was a midget - a little person, if you like.  She was quite a character, though.   During the war, she ran a rooftop observation post on a roof during the blitz.   Her fiancée was a pilot with 617 Squadron flying Lancasters.   She said his name was Tom.  He was killed before they were married.   I often think it unlikely that a young, fit pilot would date such a physically challenged lady.   I think it a credit to him that he saw past that and loved the spirit in her.  She was quite an impressive lady.   All I have is a part-finished scale model of a Lancaster that Tom was fashioning out of a bit of perspex from a gun turret.   My Dad has Tom's wings (the sewn-on badge that RAF pilots wear on their uniforms).   So, I have a sentimental attachment to Lancasters, too.

Cool story! :salute
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
