Aerobatics over the bog
« on: June 26, 2013, 05:25:21 PM »
Two good friends of mine practising for the airshow season. Yes that big brown field is a good old fashioned Irish bog. The pilot of EI-HUM, the RV-7 is Gerry Humphries, a cattle farmer but an ex RAF Harrier pilot. Only the best flew Harriers. Every time I meet him, I learn something new about flying.
Eddie Goggins the pilot with the camera is a dentist but finished third in the world aerobatic championship  at one stage. He was completely unsupported.  I flew with him once in a Pitts Special. It took me three weeks to recover from that flight. I wrenched a shoulder. I remember thinking as we rolled at low level over the field, that if I died now, I would die happy.

I've recently lost most of my enthusiasm for flying. These two guys remind me why I fly.
