Ken Burns' "The Statue of Liberty"
« on: July 04, 2013, 07:18:50 PM »
http://video.pbs.org/video/2365034151/

I'm 13 mins in on July 4th after a hard day at work.  When Helen was in middle school, each July I'd whip out the old college American History anthology, and we would read all there was to read about our colonial period.  She is now 20 and far away.  Watching this now, however, brings some solace.  And hoot and bully all you want: Yorktown and the Statue are enough to make me a fan of France.

Watching this video with your kids is not a bad use of time.

I watched that and a show about Mount Rushmore on PBS yesterday. Good stuff.

PBS is great.  History.....it's an adult learning channel.  Reminds us why we are here. Turns a mundane day into something exciting and interesting.

I DVR  History Detectives, far to few episodes imho.  I also DVR The Antiques Roadshow and anything else that catches my eye in the PBS viewing guide.

They did Ken Burns series The Civil War and the history of baseball.  Best viewing there is.

Well, thanks a bunch for these posts, it was a great day to spend the US holiday, learning a bit about Lady Liberty and the Bald Eagle.  Thoroughly enjoyed both of those!
