Translucent Cage\Canopy Option Wish
« on: July 14, 2013, 10:55:16 AM »
This was touched on in another thread.  I thought it was a good idea so I am reintroducing here.

Most of us have binocular vision.  In this, it was suggested that if AH was to have an option for a Translucent Cage\Canopy it would make vision better (just the canopy NOT plane body of course).  Not quite giving binocular vision but a nice option for those canopy parts that hinder vision that would not in real life.  If you don't like it you could disable it.

Thanks for considering,

Alas, human binocular vision usually involves 2 eyes that are spaced, on average, between 60 and 70 millimeters. Such allows for depth perception but not necessarily the ability to have one of your eyes always able to avoid the obstacle in front of the other. Even then, you would have to get your face right up to said obstacle of minimum width to do so (without side to side head movement).

Binocular vision certainly doesn't save drivers from having vision obstacles and blind sides that take more than disabling a certain setting (torso movement and neck craning).

At least some cockpit bars are thinner than real ones to emulate RL pilots being able to move their head around blind angles.  FYI/food for thought
IIRC the 190s are one instance of this..

I already tried asking for this multiple times. I referred to the current view as cyclops vision. Everyone laughed and criticized me. :cry

I protested when the new F4U models arrived.  :cry

Also, another example of removing the cyclops view could be in the wirble gun site view. :cry

I wonder why the spit and mossy planes have such a low area of canopy blind spots when compared to the American, German, and Russian planes which take on more of a looking through a straw view? :noid

A few examples of criticism from my threads:  :rofl

Not really true.  You'd be putting yourself at a disadvantage by doing that.

HiTech said that they make the cockpit framing a bit thinner than it really was to account for binocular vision.

Also, try it out in your car, your A column is not made translucent or any such thing by having two eyes.

Yes, but the blind spot is less with two eyes. Car manufacture engineers may not be aware that the thicker the columns the higher a driver is at risk for an accident. I own a full-size luxury ride and the blind spots are horrendous. The columns in my car could easily be cut down buy 1-2 inches without sacrificing structural strength. There have been times when I was surprised by a car hiding behind the a-column blind spot. Don't even get me started about my b-columns. They are somewhere around 5-6 inches wide. My current car has the worst blind spots compared to anything I have ever owned before. I’ve been in German made cars and if my memory serves me correct that blind spots were minimized. Germany usually designs using intelligent engineering.

What really makes me worried is the handicapped tags hung from rearview mirrors. I don't know who thought a 3-4 inch blind spot in the front center of a windshield is a good idea, especially for senior citizens who may not have the best vision to start out with.

As noted, HTC makes cockpit framing narrower to account for that.

They are, but their bosses are also aware that the thick columns make people feel safer and produce sales even though they actually make the car more dangerous.  When the columns are thickened like that it is just plastic and tin paneling, the actual structural member is still the same size it would be with narrow columns.

I do not believe we do Karnak.

Ah.  I recalled reading something like that in the C.205 update thread...

I stand corrected.

You're sort of correct:

I prefer to be accurate, but if we can not find the correct size, I would prefer to error on the side of thin because screens do not have binocular vision.

I agree something is off with the wind shield supports we are looking at the issue.

Hold your thumb out arms length and cover an object with one eye closed.  Now switch eyes.  Bino vision and the ability to move your head naturally hides less than our screen view, but transparent cockpit items seems like a pretty extreme solution.

that's just an example of illiterate morons breaking the law...those tags specifically state they are to be removed from the rearview mirror before driving the vehicle.
