WELP, 190's ripping wings again
« on: March 06, 2001, 11:51:00 PM »
Yuck.

That was no fun at all.

Yesterday, I was in quite a decent mood - killing went fine and I found a few good fights.

Then, some weirdness started happening.

My 190s lost wings left and right. First two times in a row - a fluke a thought. I didn't check speed or g load but noticed that once I wasn't even blacked out. Blamed it on having a dt on.

Got shot down by a Spit I hadn't seen. My mood started going downhill.

Up in an A8, Spit jumps me. Fake the split S, pull up for a shot. Speed 450, 4.5 g pullup. RRRIP, list left wingtip. I stay alive for 20 seconds barrel rolling around the Spits Hispano rounds but then I die.

So I take an A5, thinking it's more durable. Speed 400, I dive in to hellp Duma who is low with 4 cons on his 6.

KAPLONG. Whole left wing comes off. Speed was 400mph at 7k. G-load around 5g.

From 4.5k/d to 3.2 in 6-7 missions.

Wooohoo.

Wonder what happened. hope it isn't stick spikes again

<whine off>

Ugh

I have lost 190 wingtip once. I was near blackout in constant G turn when BANG! Left wingtip parted my plane.

Only reason I could think of was stick spike which build up G momentarily over the treshold.

Heh thing is I haven't lost wingtips in 190s since i started flying them. Not even when I was ver rusty.

Now all of the sudden they go left and right.

Oh well.

Sounds like spikes.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Toad could be right, I used to have a problem with an 'instant spike' problem where the fluncuation up and down so so minute that it was hardly detectable, unless you had a high speed dive going, then it was detectable by the wings ripping off.  Shoot some juice in the pots, re-calibrate..try it again.

Doesnt sound unreasonable to me...that's a fair amount of G's to load the plane with at that speed..and if you had any kind of rolling going on, you would have been loading one wing with more than that.

Oh thank you for posting this thread...I was wondering if there was a wingless-190s support group.  I just can't keep my wings on, and I'm going crazy with it.

I tried the a8 a few times last night, mostly to grab incoming bombers and on 3 occasions, 1 ding got both wings.  That was weird, but who knows.  Once I was back up, I was chasing a B26, speed was about 350 and I made that mistake of diving on him and letting speed touch 400.  I was in a shallow dive and pulled power...couldnt pull up.  I think I saw the B26's gunner smile and wave as I headed into the Earth like a nice lawn dart.  He was nice enough to not fire a shot, but slowed to watch me auger.

Hey, at least we're keeping our sense of humor...

But for the examples you mentioned...turning and then finding yourself out a wing...did that too.  Hmm, are they modeling clear air turbulence?    I was dancing with a Spit and I managed to land a few cannon shells into his engine and had him smoking good.  Was jinking to finish him off and ker-pop...left wing went bye bye.

Maybe yesterday was just a bad day for 190.  I sure got a lotta chute time  :-)

Sheeeeeit Hangtime, Grab a beer.
Lemme tell ya a little story.

Last night, the Fat Drunk Bastards were flyin' for the darkside (ROOKS) and as I miss wingin' with dem slobs from my ole Bish days, (yes I was even a knit once too) I hooked up fer some sorties.

Now it's late at night, real late, an' we'd 'bout kilt off all them nasty, sheep-lovin' knits who'd we'd hadda drag kickin' and screamin' like lil' girls into the Northwest corner of da map.

So Fatty, Creamo, and I decide we need some mo' victims, we attempt to draw some bishes to A26 with various insults and bribes from their fight with the knits that was goin' on da other side o the map.

Anyways, I saddled up my 190A-5 and headed out to A26, figurin' they's see me and send somethin' my way.

I arrive high above A26, and start circlin' and pacin' like it's ten minutes to quitin' time on a Friday afternoon, just waitin' fer somethin' with a pulse to show, when I spy with my gov'mint issue MK1 eye a Bish Spitter rollin' from 26.

So I roll my 190A-5 onto it's back like a virgin on 'er wedding night, and start pullin' back on stick, ta commence my world famous "Lawn-Dart" dive for which I am reknown for.

I am directly over the Spitter, waitin' fer his break, so's I can roll into him, when I hear this god-awful creaking ripping sound, ya know the one...same noise as when you've been constipated two weeks and it finally brown caps.

I realize, I'm fittin' to lose parts of the ole girl, now Herr Speer mighta done wonders with production numbers, but my gut sinkin' feelin' is quality control has suffered.

I begin to pull hard on the joystick, (no comments from the peanut gallery or sexual innuendos from ya'll)

And what should happen?

Lost both my wings, now normally I wouldn't care, cuz' hell they's just 'xtra weight anyways, like my flaps, and rudder, but I start to worry this time, cuz I'm thinkin' I mighta had an audience.

'kay so now I'm still flyin'...sorta, but I'm checkin' 6 real hard, not cuz I'm worried the Spitter is there, but to make sure no one saw my attack on 'im.

Unfortunatly Fatty and Creamo saw it.

Talk about embarrassin'
