Massive Stuttering
« on: July 22, 2013, 05:20:12 PM »
I get massive stuttering whenever I see other planes either green or red. Its very annoying and makes the game unplayable. This has started just recently though I'm not sure i get a decent ping but the stuttering coincides with a variance spike on the AH net status clipboard.

I have fast internet, and a decent rig. Its very confusing. :cry

Ya if your processor is overloaded by running a bunch of other things it will have a hard time running the game.

Hit "control", "alt", "delete" and run the task manager. once you have that started in the lower left of that window will be the number of processes your computer is trying to run. The lower the number the better. If you have more than 30-40 ( not sure how low you can go in a "vista" machine) it is taking away from the game.

I'm on a vista machine now,it has 48 processes running and I think you can get a vista box down around 35 to 40 processes.

I also notice it's an HP,I have a HP laptop that came out of the box with 84 processes running,it's a win7 machine and has 52 processsses running after I removed most of the junk, since solitare is the most gamming done on it I never bothered to streamline it much more.

If you have more than 45 to 50 processes running on that vista machine, check out blackviper's website to see what you can safely remove.

Like he said.  HP's come with an enormous amount of background processes.

I hate to say this, but if you are going to use Vista, you need to be aware of the fact that Vista performance does degrade over time.  It is the nature of the operating system.  Periodically, you will need to do a fresh install of the operating system to maintain some level of performance.

At the moment, however, you should clean up those errant processes.

With nothing running, go to the Windows task manager and check the CPU usage (lower left corner of the "Processes" tab).  It should be zero, almost all the time.  I am guessing it is all over the place and rarely at zero.  That is what will cause most performance issues.

I'll just add that Ive found Win-7 the best OS Ive ever used. Ever think of simply upgrading?
