When I began training for IFR air traffic control back in October 1993, my instructor Les Peddle with Transport Canada was one of the controllers stationed on the scopes at Winnipeg IFR Center, where I was hired to work, during the Gimli Glider Incident. Pretty interesting to hear his side of it from the controller's aspect too.
It was an amazing bit of flying, had I been on board I'd have been trying to shake the pilots' hands and get autographs, that's for sure....after cleaning out my pants at least.
