bomber gunners
« on: July 26, 2013, 10:55:27 PM »
again please have a standardized numbering for gunners in all bombers just like it is in a gv.  I wish that in every bomber if I pressed 2 then it would be the tail gunner (if any) or 4 chin gunner (if any).  this will make it easier for those who fly unfamiliar bombers.

I know that you can see the gunner's position on the left corner but some of us have 3 monitors and that requires a second or two to look and thus take away your eyes from the enemy fiter.  and even with only 1 monitor it makes it harder to defend sometimes.

there's really no need for bombers to have different numbers of gunner positions.

The inconsistencies in the gunner position numbering is something that does bug me quite a bit. I've been shot down several times because I couldn't remember the number of the position I wanted.

But not all bombers have the same types of positions. Some have ventral and dorsal guns and some have turrets, se have tail guns and some don't. The B-25C and Boston/A-20 only have Top guns. The He-111 has a forward-facing dorsall gun and a rear-facing dorsal gun.

Standardized numbering by position might not work, but what about numbering from front to back?

B-17: 1 (P), 2 (NG/Bmbdr), 3 (TpT), 4 (BT), 5 (R-WG), 6 (L-WG), 7 (TlG).

Lanc: 1(P), 2 (NG/Bmbdr), 3 (TpT), 4 (TlG)

the idea is that if you press 4 (or whatever number) then you will go to the tail gunner position of every bomber if available, otherwise it does nothing.  some positions like ventral or dorsal guns can be labeled the same as lower/upper gunner positions.  as there's no point in getting too technical.  same for turrets.

the thing is most of us know which gunner positions bombers have, but it's the numbering that is inconsistent.
