MLS referees... ...
« on: July 27, 2013, 08:13:41 PM »
Don't watch MLS that much, only seen parts of maybe 2-3 games before.  To be honest I've seen a lot more Premier, UEFA and World Cup games then MLS.

Came in from working this afternoon and a game was on the TV, Salt Lake v. New York, so I plopped down and watched it.

HOLY COW...     that game had the most whistle-happy ref I've ever seen...  ever.    He gifted NY 2 penalty kicks when their guy runs into the box and just falls down, I mean patently OBVIOUS dives, so RSL should have won that game.  Besides that just blowing the #%^ whistle ever time anybody hits the ground... or even not, pulling out the yellow card on everybody for everything, it was terrible.

Is this the way MLS always goes, or did I just catch a game with the worst ref in the league?

You Yanks should stick to NFL.

MLS is not really the best league for football.

Bundesliga is where its at.

football is more enjoyable to watch when it is free flowing but if the quality of players is suspect then a bad tackle or foul should be pulled up on.

I was always an excellent player (my left foot was second only to david beckham  :old:)  but I found it hard to cope with Sunday league football when the only thing on your opponents mind is breaking your legs or putting you in hospital and not the beautiful game.   :(

New season starts in 1 week    :rock :rock   feels like forever ago.

Nobody ever said it is. But it's our league and I love it. I've been a San Jose supporter since I was about 9 years old.

I watch MLS quite a lot, not one specific team just whoever is playing when I get the chance to sit and watch. I enjoy it because even if they are not at the same level as the EPL they are mainly evenly matched teams so you still get a good game. I wish there was a team more local for me to go and attend a game but my closest team is over 200 miles away.

The MLS is trying to bring more skill (ie. finesse) into the matches and less NBA-style physical shoving matches.  I support this effort.  However I agree that there are too many dives in the box and I would like to see more bookings for diving.

Ref did not have a good game. First PK call for NY was BS, but he made up for it by giving RSL a PK on a questionable foul right back.

Standard of refereeing not great in MLS but usually better than that though.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

Good to know they aren't all that bad.  Especially the last 15 minutes of that match, he was constantly stopping play.  I'm rather have refs that let them play with a few pokes and prods, rather then stopping play for every little contact.
