How about no. U.K. made cars are held together with Elmers glue and Scotch tape.

For the same price i'd much rather get a nice German made car - Preferably a Mercedes Benz or an Audi. BMWs and Porsches are way too overrated.

Getting 170k for an SLR 722 or R8 5.2 would have to be my goal though. Might take a good 40+ years but i'll get it done.

Lol I see we are still really really wet behind the ears yet

If you want a good Mercedes, the W124 series (1985-1995) was the last without built-in computerizing. I suppose they cost only hundreds over there, and at least their diesel engines last forever. Besides their spare parts are cheap.

mercedes and bmw's can be fixed for the price of another car over here  :cry.

if you want something cool and cheap get a Kei car from japan, buy one at an auction, and you can easily have a cool car landed for 3000, I have had three cars imported from japan and all have been great fun, this is how much I paid for the, landed in Canada
1990 RX7 5000$
1994 Celica GT Four WRC edition (2500 made world wide) 13 500$
1992 Mr2 4000$

all of these were in perfect shape when I got them, the GT four only had 20 000km on it, you can get a cool and interesting car from japan for less than 3 grand if you look hard enough, although I am not sure about the United states' import export laws

I see you still haven't read the entire thread yet.

Maybe you'll notice that I came back down to reality and will have to get some POS beater for a year, and then when I can get a full time job something better.

The U.S. import laws require that cars made in a foreign country are up to our emission/safety standards and a few other standards I can't remember right now. The reason you don't see Skyline R34's and MR2's is due to the fact that they don't meet some standards we have. If you wanna import a car that doesn't meet some of the requirements you'll have to upgrade it to include every single requirement such as safety/emission and then get it through customs.

That's pretty much out of the question.

If I wanted to though I can go to the flea market by the highway and get a dirt cheap car that'll get me back home before it breaks down.

If you want to grow up (like it sounds like you're coming around to), quit spending money on gaming for a little while and focus on either school or work (or both) until you have a decent income.  If you really need a computer of your own, get a cheap 15" laptop that you won't mind throwing away when you save up enough for a good one.

For a used car, I like Honda civics but their resale value might make it hard to get a good one for $3,000.  But that's where I'd start looking, a clean basic civic and don't spend all your cash on it so you have some for the first year's insurance and some gas.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

pretty much all german cars are relatively expensive to repair.  Audi is not left out either.
when I said go ahead and get the bmw or Mercedes instead of a beater I was being sarcastic, hope you know.

and semp,  DIY is a handy skill to have these days.  How much does it cost you to fix your bmw or Mercedes?

civic is usually a good choice for a first car.

if you want something a little bigger with enough power to get you out of trouble, any early 2000s model GM with a 3400 v6 is not a bad choice for a first car. decent fuel mileage (i get 32 on the highway and 24 in city in my monte carlo and the alero i used to  own) and enough power to get you out of trouble, not quite enough to get you into it. parts are cheap and readily available at any parts store or pick and pull yard...and they're dead easy to work on.

whatever you do, don't buy anything thats listed at a significantly lower price than the others.

I don't trust half the cars on Craigslist anyways. What i'm looking for is a pickup truck like an F150 or an S10. I need to be able to haul my hunting stuff around in the winter and drag some mountain bikes around the state through a bit of mud and dirt to get to a good biking spot.

I know how to fix multiple things such as lawn mowers, bikes and ATV's. Cars would definitely be good to have in mind.

Having a car to fix all the time would be a 50% good 50% bad. I can learn how to fix my car but the bad part is that i'll actually have to fix it.

I'd much rather learn about fixing a car in my auto maintenance class where we get to mess up someone else's car.

ran my alero for 5 years with nothing but common easy problems till it hit 200.000 miles. he'll crash it or upgrade long before then.

its not like i'm telling him to buy a sunfire!
