option for proximity kills
« on: September 02, 2013, 09:21:12 PM »
Can we have an option for turning off proxy kills? Sometimes I like to see how many kills I can achieve, and a lot of times I get proxies. I don't like to count the enemy auguring as a kill on my part. Also, I don't like putting lead into a red guy, and have some friendly finish him off for me to get the kill.

Basically, I want a kill for ripping a vital part off, nothing else. A check box to toggle this on or off before flight would do.

If you get the kill, even if someone else finishes him off you DID rip the vital part off. Thats how the scoring works so people can't chase down a plane that you already "killed".

As for the proxies, when someone dies, someone has to get the kill, it's a computer thing.

Really?  Can you expound on that?  If someone has to get the kill because it's a "computer thing" who gets the kill when I auger undamaged in a far flung corner of the map with the nearest person several sectors away?

I call BS.

proxy kills are awarded to stop people from augering if at a disadvantage.

also isn't there already a way to count proxy kills. category kills not counted towards score?

To prevent further confusion, here is how proxy and normal kills do work now.

-Proxy Kills are awarded to you if you are within 6000 ft of a killed enemy (bail, auger, whatever) and no other player still in sortie can claim any hits on him. (If player A sets player B ablaze, but dies himself before player B, another player C in proxy range will get the kill)
- Proxy kills do count fully for score purposes if applicable (they just give only a single Kill Point, as no damage was inflicted by the player getting credit for the proxy kill)
- If several players have hits on an enemy, the one who did the most damage will get the kill (which can be 'hidden' damage, the one finally removing the wing of a plane isn't necessarily the one with most total damage inflicted)
- Once damage to a plane has reached a critical level or state (fire, wing or tail removed and so on), no more hits are registered for kill credit purposes (to prevent killstealing)

Two things; It's prbably easier to think in terms of 2K than 6000 ft as that's how the game displays distance and while proxies count in score they don''t earn perks.

Proxy kills can be turned off and the distance can also be adjusted in the arena administrator settings.  It's up to the arena admins to either enable it and set distance, or disable it outright.

Probably. :)

I just stated the exact value as players may wonder why it one time the icon was showing "2k" and they didn't get a proxy while at another time they do. As "2k" can be between 1750 and 2250 yards

How about just a separate proxy count in your score.   That way you still get proxy kills when guys auger trying to vulch you and you can keep track of your real kills.
