At the risk of diverging from your OP, I will say this. As you probably know, finding good GV fights isn't easy. Firstly, it depends on what you want. I see 2 major modes of GVing, which are (1) base capture, and (2) GV "furballing".
Although I don't really prefer it, base capture can be done on any map. The problem is that in most cases, you will be at the mercy of ground attack aircraft, since they are most motivated to kill you when you are threatening a base, and if it's an air base, they are right there already. So your role as a GV may degenerate into playing the role of lemming / helpless victim to the attack AC. If your side has numbers, it can lead to survivable GVing, but that is problematic.
My favorite type of GVing is what I call GV "furballing", which is GV combat for its own sake, preferably on interesting terrain. A good example of this is on OzKansas tank town, when the center of tank town island is still in play, with all 3 countries still present. It gives you the chance to pit your wits and skills against other GVs, both in maneuver and in shooting, analogously to what goes on in an air-to-air furball. So for example if the perk tank is dominating the battle from your front, maybe you can move to that hill off to the side and hit him from the flank. This type of fight is the hardest to find, as the game isn't currently designed to encourage this style of play. (Honestly, I don't think that HTC "gets this" yet, or maybe they don't feel it's important). This type of GVing is usually found where you can spawn to the vicinity of a GV base, and where there are no ground attack aircraft (or they are kept too busy by other aircraft to attack GVs). So you either need a tank town, or chains of GV bases relatively inaccessible to AC. There are a few places on about half the maps where such combat can be found.
