Spitfire Vb/Vc / Seafire , again....
« on: October 23, 2013, 06:27:39 AM »
So, the never ending discussion continues....

What we had way back before the spitfire updates was something of a mix, the Spitfire Vb but with the C wing loadouts, meaning 120 rpg per cannon, correct?  Which made it very popular, at least I remember it so, and loved it dearly.

After the update, it's the pure Spitfire Vb, right?
Why did we never get the Spitfire Vc? Too close to Vb? We got Seafire which has similar performance to the Spitfire Vb?
Note on our Seafire: while the stats say that they have same performance at same weights, it does not imply same loadouts, as the Seafire's empty weight is heavier.

This is easily illustrated in the turning comparisons:

Also, does anyone have the data on how many Vcs were built with Trop filters?

Basically nitpicking here, but it still makes my head scratch to this very day....

HTC does not seem inclined to do subversions of a given mark of Spitfire and the Spitfire V was needed in Vb form to cover 1941.  The Spitfire Mk Vc is a 1942 aircraft with not just twice the cannon ammo, but a different engine as well.  Thus just giving an option for 120 rounds per gun doesn't make a 1941 Spitfire Mk Vb into a 1942 Spitfire Mk Vc.

Wasn't our old V the latest of the V models representing 1943 spit Vs? I remember it out flew the old IX in everything except top speed. We sort of had the best possible V and worst IX.

I wouldn't mind a Vc, if it comes with a tropical filter.

The majority of Vcs were tropicalized and sent to the MTO or PTO.  Yes there were some based in England, but in general the Spitfire IX was stepping into the primary role in the ETO while the Vc went elsewhere.  Spitfire Vb were used for a long time as escorts to medium bombers etc.  They were the modified LFVbs adapted to perform better at low alt.

The Spitfire Vb we have is basically the one that was the front line Spit in 41-42.

If I had my choice on another Spit to add, I think I'd want the Seafire LFIII.  That would give the guys missing the Vc a comparable bird while giving the Brits the primary Seafire of the war.  For Scenarios it would be more appropriate for the latewar stuff in particular.  They were over Japan at the end.

Probably the easiest thing for HTC to do would be to add a Spitfire LFIX with full span wings.  That being said, it's performance would be similar to the Spitfire VIII we have, so the Seafire III makes more sense as a more valuable addition both for MA and special event use.

I'd love the The Mark VA because it was Bader's aircraft.

That could be done by simply offering the eight .303 armament on the existing Spitfire Mk V.

There's a lot of aircraft already in the game that could have other armament options added for more variation, or completely new variants added with a little bit of editing. 12 .303 Typhoon comes to mind, or possiby the 4 cannon Spit V.

I've never seen any indication that the Typhoon Mk Ia was ever actually produced and used.

I would love to see the seafire L III :)

There's a very good chance it would become my favourite ride.

I think the one with the 303s got at least one kill/shared, but it may have been during test flights. I'll check it tomorrow.
