OPERATION CARTWHEEL ROLLS
Operation Cartwheel the twin-axis of advance operation, aimed at neutralizing the Japanese base at Rabaul and New Guinea has begun. While USN and USMC forces under Admiral Nimitz advance through the Solomon Islands toward Bougainville. 5th Air Force units under command of General MacArthur are tasked with neutralizing and ultimately eliminating IJAF and IJN units and airbases in Papua New Guinea and Western New Britain. IJAF Sentais and IJN Kokutais stationed in both areas are poised ready to repel the Allied advances. The initial 5th AF Attacks will be against two Japanese airfields in New Guinea and one Japanese airfield in New Britain.
The Japanese bases on New Guinea targeted for attack by the USAAF are A47 at Laiagam Map Grid 0.12.5 and A43 at Finschafen Map Grid 13.11.6. The Japanese base at Gasmata Map Grid 7.12.1 is the only targeted base on New Britain for Frame -1

Special Rules: - Aircraft may launch rearm and tower out from any friendly base.
- No formations for bombers
- B-25C will use the solid nosed strafer version only.

- P38s and P-47 may not carry bombs
- No points awarded for destruction of buildings cities and towns
- No points for destroyed base structures other than hangers
- No points for damage to ships. Ships must be sunk to receive points
- Neutral bases A-13 A-15 A-35 A-36 A-37 and A-38 will be considered neutral
and setup as Rook. Aircraft from both sides Axis and Allied will cause these
bases to flash when over flying them simulating coast watchers for both sides.
