Film Viewer bugs
« on: September 17, 2013, 12:25:42 AM »
The "FOV zoom" slider doesn't work at all -- does nothing.

When in external view mode, the bracket keys ([]) only move the camera distance forward and back even in zoom mode -- they don't move FOV zoom in and out when in zoom mode.

Clouds (ones that were loaded for the event with .sweath) at times disappear, especially in full-screen mode.  You can get them back by being in external mode and using [] to move camera distance in and out.  In internal mode, you need to jump to external in full screen, then back into internal mode to get the clouds to appear again.

If ships are maneuvering under someone's control, they don't appear in the film in the correct spot (compared to where they really were when you were flying).

"Gun cam" mode doesn't seem to work properly.  Clicking on it sometimes just results in my bomber disappearing.  If I do manage to get an actual view from a gunner position, then unclicking "gun cam" doesn't always get me back to normal internal view, and I'm stuck there.  So, it is too buggy to use now.

"Bombsight" mode gives a bombsight, but not the one you see when flying.  The crosshairs don't line up with your direction of travel and might not take into account calibration.

If the event had accelerated time (such as so that a day goes by in 3 hours), if you take a bunch of time in the viewer doing things, the sun can set earlier in your film than it did during the real event.  But if you then stop the film and fast forward or slider travel to that same spot, the sun will be at the position it was during the running of the event.  I.e., sun travel in film viewer can happen while your film is paused, it seems.

When you use the "Distance zoom" slider, it takes keyboard focus until you click on something else.  Then, Page Up and Page Down keys, in addition to moving your camera position up and down, also move the slider back and forth.  Incredibly annoying, as I often forget to click on slider, move it, then click off the slider before I'm pressing keys to move the camera position around.  Then I have to go back and redo the zoom I want, click off it, then move head around again.  This isn't technically a bug, but it would be *so* much better if nothing moved that slider other than [].

I know that Film Viewer is not the meat of Aces High, but generally, people are using Film Viewer to create content that showcases Aces High, so Film Viewer is good for PR.  My hope it that at least easy-to-fix bugs get fixed nearer term, while harder ones get fixed over time.

Some wish-list items:
-- Faster to jump to spots in your film you want.  In a 3-hour film, jumping to 1:30:00, say, can take minutes.
-- Rewind that works without leaving artifacts of explosions or fires or causing problems with position of bomber drones.
-- A play-speed slider that is much finer grained under 1.0.  I use ultra-slow motion a lot so that I can pick up a particular hit on an aircraft.  That's hard to do with so little resolution to the slider below 1.
-- Faster jump from windowed to full screen and vice versa.

I don't know the difference in film viewer, but the zoom function is normally disabled when FOV is mapped. That goes vice versa when FOV is mapped.

As I understand "Gun Cam" it works as expected. Gun cams were ports in the leading edge which should be the view position, which I know is not accurate. However, as was seen in my film "September Angriff"
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTAD-_2I0bg - Ta-152) and "Mustang vs Heinkel" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0IKd25xFIM - P-51D), it is possible to accurately depict WWII gun cams to a very high mark.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

There are two zoom-like things in the film viewer:  (1) moving camera forward and back and (2) FOV zoom (like zoom on your camera lense).  FOV zoom slider doesn't work.  Neither does using [] when you have FOV zoom mode toggled in external view.

"Gun cam" check box in film viewer is for selecting the point of view of being in the guns (instead of being in the cockpit) while in internal view.  It has the bugs described above.

Chalenge, you are right regarding the "gun cam" mode, and I was incorrect about a bug there.

What I was after is obtained by selecting "use recorded views" without selecting "gun cam".  I was mistaken about what the "gun cam" functionality does.

Brooke you can zoom the fixed view more by zooming in, going back to the cockpit view, zooming in, then going back to the fixed view.

True, but that is a significant hassle compared to the keys and slider working in external view.
