My current big wish...
« on: October 22, 2013, 12:36:53 PM »
How about a little post now and then from HTC on development?  I know, I know...you don't want to get people all excited about something you're working on and then have it not pan out.  AHII is one example, and how the campaign game never materialized.  However, when was the last time we heard anything about where AH is going, development-wise?  A number of years ago, I did a couple interviews with Dale for the on-line magazine, The Wargamer, in which we talked about his plans for adding things like bomber formations (which we now have, of course), subs, and a FPS element to the game.  Currently, we have no real insight into what they're working on.  I'm not expecting time-tables or firm promises, but would love to again hear some of Dale's musings on where he's thinking about taking this game.  We throw a lot of ideas out there in this forum; I'd just like to here what's on HiTech's wishlist! :pray

They already said they won't do this. For weekly reports they would pretty much be w"we wrote some code to day" or " we tested some code today". As for specifics they won't release that info for a number of reasons. The biggest one would be they don't want the competition to know what they are working on and so give them "ideas" or have them get the jump on them in releasing a certain idea/item/play action.

What I think would be cool is if a few enterprising people got together and made a monthly "E-Letter". It could have info on players, equipment, tactics, happenings in the arenas, info on FSO/Scenarios/Racing league, maybe a cartoon  :neener: and should HTC be releasing info to the web page a few more details could be given to the editors to flesh out the announcement a bit in the news letter.

Getting a monthly news letter could help keep interest going in the game as well as maybe bringing in new players as people get caught at work reading them, or they get passed around on FaceBook or twitter.

If we have something to show we will & do post shots, if we have nothing new to show we don't.

+1 on the graphic, Arlo! :aok

And Fugitive, I wouldn't expect a weekly update from HTC.  The articles I referenced did not result in any unfair advantages to the competition (which, honestly, there really isn't much of these days), yet they contained some very cool insights into what HiTech was mulling over.  It's a fine line between tantalizing the player base and divulging trade secrets, but it's manageable.  It creates buzz, which breeds excitement.  In turn, the conversation generated among the player base can actually prove helpful to the developer, like a giant, virtual brainstorming session.

I don't know about you, but I feel quite in the dark about where the game is going (if anywhere).  Is this all there is? Is the future of AH an endless of series of patches and incremental improvements, with the occasional new aircraft/vehicle thrown in?  It feels like that right now.  With the demise of the campaign system, we're kind of left spinning our brain-wheels. Yes, I still very much enjoy playing AH (I spent $3K building an uber system with the primary purpose being to get back on-line to AH), but like the promise of a divine afterlife (), I crave something to look forward to.
