VidMem used question
« on: October 15, 2013, 09:29:34 PM »
HI all... so when i log onto the game i get this display that gives me my FPS and my Vidmem

The bottom row of the display says:
"VidMem 3823.0M Used 7.9M Cnt=0"

Does this mean that I ahve 3823.0 Megabytes of memory available but I'm only using 7.9 MBs?  I am confused because I run on a i7-920 2.66GHZ, 2GB of DDR3 Ram, with a ATI HD 5850 video card and sometimes i still get ~30 FPS...  I feel like my machine should be able to run at full 60 fps at all times... am i doing something wrong?  Can I increase the VidMem used somehow?  Any help would be appreciated.

The amount of memory available is accurate, but it includes what the operating system is going to give the video card from system RAM.  The amount used is only accurate in Windows XP.  Microsoft broke the function which reported the amount of used memory in Vista, and all versions of Windows after that.

We will probably remove that line in a future release.

I need a DXDIAG output to better answer the performance question.  Also note, it is quite possible to configure the game to cause performance problems with your video card.

One last thing.  If your computer only has 2GB of system RAM, and you are running any operating system other than Windows XP, your computer is not going to have enough free RAM to run the game without running out of resources, especially if you configure the game with any of the graphic details enabled.

Thanks Skuzzy.  I misstated my Ram amount I actually have 6GBs not 2GBs.  I sent you a PM with my dxdiag.  Let me know if there is something I can do to increase performance.  Thanks.
