35 years ago today it happened.  I was five and remember my parents discussing it w other adults.

As for don't drink the Kool Aid... many were forced to drink against their will (children, infants, elderly) or if they refused were taken out and shot, and of course the congressman and his party gunned down at the airfield.
 

Jones offed himself with a handgun to the head, didn't want the agony of poison I guess....

I remember seeing it on the news when it happened but being only 8 at the time, had no idea what they were talking about.  It wasn't until I was a little older that I understood what had happened.

in human society there will always be large number of the population that are darwin award recipients willing to drink the kool-aid in hopes a leprechaun somewhere will share his lucky charms...whether it's jones, moon, hubbard, koresh, the pope or el presidente.

Hunt for the audio tapes.  You'll hear the bellowing command to "drink the kool-aid!", the screaming of the victims and those watching/hesitating to follow through.  I think in one audio example I heard there were gunshots too.

This goes hand in hand with any subject that people follow or believe blindly.  There are some people who are so ignorant and so focused on 1 specific thing they forget reality and the larger picture.  Hence joshing someone about "drinking the kool-aid" when they are absolute about something.

This is actually one of the first news reports i remember as a kid.....remember mom and dad watching it on the news and me asking all kinds of questions.....I was raised going to church every Sunday (my grandfather was a minister) and didnt understand how a minister could do this to people....very sad

everyone follows and drinks kool aid at one time or another.  if you think you aren't is probably because you are following somebody who told you you aren't.  that or your patents abandoned you in the forest at birth.
