Question about the new terrian and shadows.
« on: November 21, 2013, 11:07:19 AM »
Will it still be DirectX 9? When shopping for a new video card, what specs should we consider,

Texel rate, pixel rate, render units ? 256 bit or 384 ? How much memory would be enough to run

a 27" monitor @ 1920x1080 @ 60 FPS with the new eye candy.

I'm looking to replace my GTX260 which has served me through the years. But. it's time to upgrade.

I flipped a coin to see where I should post this. Heads hardware, tails technical. It was heads.

It is DirectX9.

It is too early to talk about the video card requirements.

HiTech is designing the system, using an NVidia 9800GTX video card.

When we get everything finalized and out of debug mode, then we can talk about the hardware requirements.

Right now, the only real hard requirement is the video card will HAVE to support Shader Model 3.0, or later.  That particular model has been around for over five years.

I was curious so I did some research. Shader model 3.0 was introduced in 2004 on the Geforce 6000 series cards. So for Nvidia you are OK if you have a 6000-9000 series or one of the later 100-700 series cards. For AMD support is included with the X1300, the HD 2000-7000 and the latest R7-R9 cards.
