It took me two years to get my first 100 kills of B-29s. Just eight months later (and only seven of them playing) I am at 200 now. And that's only because of the 'indefensible' strats.
They are a great bomber magnet, and on many maps strat runners are quite easy to spot from long distances giving you ample time to get in position even in the case of 30+k B-29s. On top of that, on 10 out of 13 maps in the rotation a bomber guy is flying into Me 163 territory when attacking the factories, which in many cases simply amounts to suicide (and is very frustrating). It's a gamble for the average bomber pilot - is someone reading the map and willing to engage you?

And speaking of puffy ack: In the current year, I lost 33 bombers over enemy strats to puffy ack so far, including 20(!) B-29s. On the other hand, I lost only 10 B-29s to players. It's not that puffy ain't hurting you already.. ;)

Because I would rather spend my time dodging wirbles and killing M3's then actually dogfighting...

God, you really are bitter than anyone would dare presume to do something other than dogfight, aren't you  :lol.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

I dunno.  Every time I got for a strat run there is always half the enemy air force up waiting for me.  Regardless if I fly at 30K or 30 feet.  :salute

Hmmmmmm.... No.

Puffy ack can be a hassle, and it's pretty annoying combined with 163's buzzing around you at 400-600Mp/H. There are so many ways to improve the bombers rather than ways to work against them. Add more targets I say, It's kind of boring having to sit on an hour long flight to strats, a 5 minute suspense run, and the another hour home! And before I get slapped in the face by "They [bomber crews] went for lengths 4 times that run, stop whining", isn't this a game, supposed to be fun, right? I just hate having nothing to do. At least the pilots in WWII had people on the intercom they could talk to, while I'm stuck slamming my head into a brick wall for entertainment, trying to see how much facial reconstruction I'm going to need when I get home. And pretty much, your options are: Hit a field swarming with fighters, hitting any other field will be useless as a contribution to your team, or you can, oh well, go to the strats!  :bhead

Has me now thinking about rail depots and what they supplied in WW2.

Rail from numerous regions in many different countries supplied both the Axis and Allied forces.

Fuel transported by rail and fuel depots were major targets. Toward the end of the war targeting the Wehrmacht/LW fuel supplies had enormous effect, probably to the tune of saving tens of thousands of Allied lives. In game hitting fuel strat or even the fuel supplies on the field has zero effect. ATM I don't know where the balance lies, imo the majority that don't horde would not want to enable the horde anymore than they already are by making fuel so important that it becomes a primary target. On the other hand it should have some relevant aspect in game.

hmmm

My usual strat mission in a B17 lasts for 60min from takeoff to landing. On a large map, relocated strats or because of lost territory, it can take longer. If you are bored you can always fly a bit lower on your way to target and shoot at some interceptors. Large maps could benefit from more targets.

Boredom is one reason why I started to fly over enemy bases on the way to strats from time to time. Doing so gives the 88mm guys a chance to throw some shells and sometimes it gets pretty intense when the shells explode near or the tracers almost hit the aircraft. So far it is a very rare occasion when someone fires the 88mm. Flying over bases gives enough warning for the enemy to up a prop plane and intercept. If multiple cons or heavy cannon planes appear then it is time to go high and/or stealthy again.

I don`t agree that hitting any other field is useless. Destroying ords, troops, dar and vh at some other field can hinder the enemy`s supply, attack and defensive capabilities.

I saw B26s fly through and bomb a specific strat making two passes at 6000 feet and they flew off not even smoking.

Other than the B26, everything else seems pretty OK except for getting killed by puffy ack at 33,000 feet in a fighter wildly turning at 400mph almost a half sector away.
