joystick input
« on: December 04, 2013, 12:38:35 PM »
I have a fairly new Logitech Extreme 3d pro stick...have had it for about 3 or 4 months...and I've really had fits with it since I've had it...I have adjusted and adjusted and modified dead band and damping...I've calibrated and re-calibrated...I've defaulted it and unplugged and plugged it back in...and last night as I was adjusting for the millionth time I noticed that the raw and scaled didn't match as I moved through the axis...as in when I go from full forward to full back it stopped in the middle and then moved...no matter how I set the dead band or damping or axis scaling it did the same thing it (the scaled bar) hung up in the middle...the raw moved smoothly through the middle but the scaled hung in the middle then moved to full forward or full back...same on side to side....same on rudder (twist) axis....as I started asking for input on what was going on with it on 200, Brooke was kind enough to try to help me with my issue and we messed with it for quite awhile to no avail....the raw input is fine...but the scaled input to my control surfaces is hanging in the middle then moving on....so if I'm in a dive or if I'm trying to roll and I move through the middle of the axis I get a pause...which has been causing me to auger and lose control constantly...I thought it was me and I've tried everything flight style wise....then the stick adjusting part...but think if your in a shallow dive toward a con and pull up through the axis of your stick and as you pass through it your control surfaces do not move and suddenly take hold...I'm sorry if I didn't explain it right but its driving me crazy  :bhead  :bhead ....I don't know what's wrong with it

I have the same stick Puller,

I noticed that if I didn't have the logitech software installed, I too experienced poor/erratic feedback. Since I installed the software, I only have to re-calibrate upon starting the game for my own feel-good-ness.

I know that I also have to un-plug the joystick when playing certain other games (Xcom) because there is a conflict occurring with USB mouse and USB joystick inputs. May i suggest verifying that your joystick behaves properly outside of the game? As in, do you see the same type of "hang" in axis movement when outside of the game?

Set everything back to "default".

Calibrate in Windows first. (control panel, game controllers)

Calibrate in game. (Clipboard, Options, controls, map controllers, advanced, enable scaling)

That was the last suggestion that I received last night by someone else on 200...I don't use it for any other game except AH...I do have the software installed but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary as far as the hang up was concerned...when I get home I'm going to mess with the software menu and hope that my daughter might have opened it at some point in time and screwed it up  :lol  if not I'm going to whirl it about my head and see how far it flies into the field behind my house  :rofl  I remember when I installed the software it took me through a setup and everything behaved normally...but since then I've just used AH setting to tinker with it

If I understand correctly, you have scaling enabled. If that's the situation, disable it and see what happens. As you've noticed, you can calibrate each axis separately in AH, but calibrating your stick in Windows before running the game is sound advice. A Logitech Extreme shouldn't need any Logitech software installed. Most people get better results without it, by just calibrating both in windows and in game. Worth uninstalling it to see if that would work.  :salute

it does this whether or not the scaling is enabled or disabled....I will try the windows calibration when I get home as well...Thanks... :salute
