Wezels Track IR questions
« on: December 29, 2013, 10:21:48 AM »
Howdy all just got my Track IR going and I know doubt will have some questions and dont want to clog up the other thread's with dumb arse questions.

Ok first question, if I minimize AH to change some of the track IR settings when I re open AH the Track Ir stops working, I have to log out of AH to get working again, Is there a way around this?  Thanks in advance for any help  :salute

Not sure why it happens like that, but it does it on mine too. I just live with it. I look at it as "rebooting" the game after I change a setup in TrackIR.

Here are some helpful links on how to set it up.

Here are all the profiles I have collected. Unzip them and drop them into your profile folder and you will see them in your list as by who there were made by.

Thanks for the reply, that's what i was figuring too just wanted to make sure I was not missing something that would save the time of the game reloading.

I have yours and Latrobes Track IR post bookmarked, both have great info and is helping me big time with the set up  :salute the biggest tip was setting up all the axis one at a time, that saved me tossing up my lunch lol

I will check out the profiles you posted when I get a better understanding on how the system works, dont want to mess myself up too-bad, I just finished setting it up so now I'm off for a test run  :joystick:

Wezel, it takes a bit to get use too but when you got the trackir set the way you want, you will not want to go back to the old hat switch.  Play with the curves, speed setting and so forth.

Fugitive, I check those profiles out you posted and all have a low almost flat curve to them. I know profiles are a personal preference to each user but you guys must be using 3 monitors, I almost have to twist my head like Carrie to get a 180 deg view lol . I have mine set up as move of a steep "V" [single monitor]and only have to move my head aprox 20deg  to achieve the the 180deg view, roll, X,Y and Z axis are set more of a flat curve for now until I get more comfy with the yaw and pitch. The hardest part for me to get use to is not getting to figity  in my seat , I have always been very into the games I play and have a tendency to move around a lot  :joystick:

Wezel my profile has more of the "V" shape to it with a small flat at the bottom, and it looks that way for all axis except roll, I have that one turned off. I found that tir works much better for me with an aggressive profile where I don't have to move my head around a lot to get the views to move around. You will want to add in some smoothing so it's comfortable for you. You also want to assign a button on your stick or throttle to center trackir so that when you move around in your seat you can bring your view back where it belongs. Also I have found that if I disable trackir set the forward view up like you would using a hat switch that will be your default "centered" view in trackir. Play around with that forward view a little and you'll get to where you can look around in most planes rather well.

What Randy1 says. It just takes some getting used to. I messed with the profiles Fugi posted too but I found with pretty much all of them I was moving my head around a lot more than I might like. My profiles are almost straight up for pitch and yaw with hardly a bump for roll. I don't remember which ones are for x,y and z but the short of that for me is I have them mirrored for side to side movement and a higher curve for head in and head up than the opposite on those curves. I figure I'm not able to move my head backwards very far and I can't compress my cervical vertabrae much either so back and down are pretty much useless.

It had me all messed up for a while. My setup is squirrely by design but I didn't want to get a neck injury just looking around. I also had to break myself of the habit of leaning in closer to the screen when in a fight as that was messing up my view down the gunsight.

I also reassigned some hate switches to pause and center TIR as needed. Big help. I can slways pause TIR and just use my regular view hat. Old habits die hard.

Drano and SIG1 have already given some really good advice.  I will add a note about the "Speed" slider.  When you increase the Speed, there is kind of a momentum with it.  Using the curves you have, slide the Speed slider to the right and note the difference.

Like Drano, I have very steep curves but I dampen them down by sliding the Speed slider to left about .4  Another way is flatter curves but with the Speed slider past 1.0.
I too have a button to turn trackir off and another to center it.

I use my hat switch for flaps

I got the pause and center buttons mapped out rather quickly, took me a wile to figure out how to set the default
view for each aircraft I use but got that done.

The steep "V" shape curve I have found to work best for me, speed setting .6 and smooth to 25. I Keep  what I think is large dead zone for a gun sight view, I like the way it snaps to center quickly in the furball. The negative pitch[Down] is on more of a flat curve, I got tired of looking at my poop stain in the seat when I wanted to check the gauges quickly  :D

On a side note smoking and using the Track ir at the same time can cause lots of view shifts which can cause serious injury to the cartoon pilot..... yup lawn darted a few times  :joystick:

All in all I like it a lot and am getting use to it the more I fly with it and before ya know it I will be back to my normal suckage level in the skies  :x

Thanks for the tips  :salute

I'm having trouble with my Track IR 5. Thanks to Fugitive's postings I have the Track IR setup and configured OK external to the game.

BUT I can't get the game to use/see Track IR inputs at all. Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

Do you have Aces High selected in the TrackIR software to go with your profile?

it was in the list with all the other games TrackIR works with. I thought it detected the game once you fired it up. After selecting AHII, and firing up the game, it works. definitely want to make a bigger dead-zone though.

Thanks for the nudge Randy

Glad I could help.  Try unchecking the Roll, Y and Z curves.  Once you have that working start adding back the other curves.
