I think that's Hanks/Spielberg's latest miniseries.

All I can say, doesn't look like Memphis Belle comes CLOSE to that intensity, even in the preview.

I watched a few minutes of it today on my phone. I honestly thought it was over done.

If indeed it was Spielbergs and Hanks new series then I will hold my judgement until I see it, but from the short bit I saw it looked way to cheesy, along the lines of redtails.

They had quality 3D animation/effects in Band of Brothers and Pacific. That was not of the same caliber.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Supposedly a 10 hour mini-series.

Agree that the animation did not look top-notch but I think we all realize how tough that would be with aviation on this scale.

I think the trailer has a couple of pounds of cheese in it. Time of useful consciousness at 25K without oxygen is generally put at 3-5 minutes. A very large number of bombing missions were flown pretty close to 25k give or take a couple thousand feet. I don't think the PIC/SIC would be without oxygen in the scenario shown.

OTOH, it may actually capture some of the brutality of the air war quite well. Martin Caidin's Black Thursday depicts what they went through and I think that clip tracks with what Caidin wrote.

I think the mini-series is something different. This is a full length movie.

Thats what I was told anyways.

Keep in mind that it's also a preview, so not all of the SFX may be 100% complete, yet.

Wonder if we'll get to see a Cactus Air Force series at some point. History books are all over the 8th Air Force, but the air war over the Canal gets so frequently overlooked. The Pacific glossed it altogether (we got to see some planes taking off. Didn't even get mentioned in the introduction to those two episodes).

I think you are correct. Found this out there in intardnet land:

Quote
Just in time for Veteran's Day, we have a really cool exclusive for you, which comes in the form of a sneak peek at teaser footage/concept trailer for THE MIGHTY EIGHTH, a WWII epic that focuses on the B17 air crews piloting through the onslaught of the Luftwaffe. The footage was put together by Hydraulx, the special effects company formed by Greg & Colin Strause (SKYLINE, TAKE SHELTER). The film has yet to be shot with the script out to cast and making its debut at AFM, so this is a unique peek at not only the proposed film, but how it's being sold in the early stages. It's a very cool teaser, regardless, and one that shows a mountain of potential for the project. - See more at: http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/exclusive-check-out-this-awesome-teaser-footage-for-wwii-epic-the-mighty-eighth#sthash.UpXZW0Ph.dpuf

Apparently it is still in the concept stage.

Agree with cheesy. Not realistic, and cartoonish.

Let's hope the miniseries is better than this preview.
