Honestly the 780gtx has dropped so much in price there isnt a whole lot of difference $$$ wise. Nor is there a ton of difference performance wise. You'll be thrilled with the 770, and yeah I think you'll be set for a couple/3 years.

Its a hell of a time to buy a graphics card. AMD changed the game with its 280 and 290 and Nvidea had to cut prices to stay in the race. I think this competition will go on and right now even someone with $300 to $400 can buy a damn fine card.

This. Last time the top notch graphics were this cheap was back in 2008, with the HD-4850/70 and the GTX 260+. Those cards are still usable today, would bet that a decent new card will be enough for a couple years too.

If I was buying now I'd get the top end NVidia.  Everyone has their preferences but even when ATI/AMD cards are technically "faster", I've always had better luck with NVidia cards.  The only exception is that for some reason I prefer how video playback looks when using ATI/AMD cards.  Something about the filtering I think looks better on the AMD cards.  But for overall gaming I have preferred NVidia after trying several cards of both brands over the last umm... 15 years or so.
