Here are 50 rules for fathers of daughters I thought were poignant.

I've added rule 51, "Teach her how to throw a right hook"

I've taught both of my girls how to shoot.  The oldest (17) is pretty good with a pistol and the youngest (10) is getting pretty good at breaking clay pigeons.

Thanks for sharing.  Good to read and thankfully I already practice a lot of those points.  My little girl is 8yo and becoming more and more precious to me as the days go by.  Some days I wish to do over not because they were not good days but more so because I just want that chance to experience her again.  Each and every day is special.  Never take it for granted.

God forbid anyone hurt her, they will answer to me then they will answer to the Almighty.   :t

There is a lot of good advice there. Kids do grow up so fast.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

An institution we started once we had more than one child (we have four now, 2 girls and 2 boys) was weekly daddy-daughter date or father-son night.  I highly encourage all dads to do this.  One night a week was set aside for this (on a rotating basis) where I would go out with one of my kids, just the two of us.  The rule was, my daughter or son got to choose what we did and where we went, but the spending limit was $10 total, to cover both of us (it rose later, to $20), and we'd usually be out for no more than about two hours.  My kids and I came to look forward to this greatly, and they never failed to remind me it was date-night.  While they're all out of high school but one, I still try to find times when I ask just one of them to go with me to the store, or shooting, or to run an errand, and I always try to find time to stop and get a milk shake or ice-cream cone.  Those times are precious, and they will remember always that I found time "just for them". ;)  I highly recommend this, to the fathers who still have young ones in the house.

Excellent...  I needed a good cry  :P

Mine is about to turn three after xmas.  I don't need to teach her how to throw a left hook or a right cross, she's already the terror of the house!

My sister asked my daughter if she could please be a vet when she grows up, because she has lots of dogs/cats etc etc.

I turned to my daughter and said "Don't listen to the old woman, stick to becoming a lawyer.  Far more useful."

The market for lawyers is saturated and might not be a good choice.  Just don't go into human healthcare -- that's in the process of being ruined.

I am hopeful that my two boys will provide all the work she would ever want or need, on the assumption she becomes a corporate lawyer of course...lol  Hopefully not if she is a criminal lawyer.   ;)
