An institution we started once we had more than one child (we have four now, 2 girls and 2 boys) was weekly daddy-daughter date or father-son night. I highly encourage all dads to do this. One night a week was set aside for this (on a rotating basis) where I would go out with one of my kids, just the two of us. The rule was, my daughter or son got to choose what we did and where we went, but the spending limit was $10 total, to cover both of us (it rose later, to $20), and we'd usually be out for no more than about two hours. My kids and I came to look forward to this greatly, and they never failed to remind me it was date-night. While they're all out of high school but one, I still try to find times when I ask just one of them to go with me to the store, or shooting, or to run an errand, and I always try to find time to stop and get a milk shake or ice-cream cone. Those times are precious, and they will remember always that I found time "just for them".

I highly recommend this, to the fathers who still have young ones in the house.
