Witout starting "Tech" wars and other chest puffing arguments about the merits of one hardware over another. I have a list below and 2 concerns i have are compatibility and bottleneck problems. I have about 300.00 to work with.I'm salvaging my GPU from my HP

I'd suggest a better known PSU. Apparently it's a new model, since Tom's Hardware doesn't include it in their list. Check the UL-code for the real maker if you think it's worth it. A SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze would cost only $20 more at Newegg, giving +4A on the 12V rail even on paper. The case looks well breathing and based on the weight not one of the weakest.

I'll leave the rest for those who know about current AMD.

Are you also salvaging your RAM, HD, DVD, mouse, keyboard and monitor?

What kind is your current GPU?  It's impossible to predict bottlenecks without that information.

Shop for a better PSU.

One downfall of the AMD processor is the game only runs on one core of it. The Intel processors in the I5 dual core range are about the same price for the Mobo / CPU (if you hunt well).They will run two cores with the game, Skuzzy wrote about this a while ago. I will see if I can dig up the thread.

Don't just look for clock speed on a CPU / Mobo, there is a huge factor that is missed and that is bus speed and size. Also, those atx micro boards can get tricky, limiting cooling and config options.

If the HP would go to dumpster, what else could you reuse from it than those BaldEagl mentioned? Case? Windows license (if it were Win7, that is)? A lot depends on the age of the HP, of course.

Your YEARS seem to be shorter than average... This is what Skuzzy told us about AH only utilizing one core on AMD processors last February, ten months ago:

That is not always true.  It depends on the CPU.  Not all of AMD's CPU's have the high resolution clock problem.  Even within the same family it may or may not have the issue.  It also seems to depend on the motherboard as well.

Basically, it is a crap shoot.

The issue affects years old cpu models. AFAIK the 1 core problems stopped with the K8 series and upwards. Your quote does not mention the 1 core limitation at all, he is speaking about the precision clock problem which is not limited to AMD but affects some Intel motherboards also. At least in Intels case the problem (spinning clipboard) was solved simply by turning the high precision clock support off from the BIOS.

From the information I have read on this board, an AMD devoted user claimed that starting from K8 series the single core limitation was lifted. The spinning clipboard is an issue that I personally believe is related more to the motherboard implementation and not so much to the actual CPU, judging from the fact that I have personally had it on Intel CPU+mobo combination and it seems to be crap shoot even within 1 AMD cpu model. So if the cause is the chipset and not the CPU that would indeed randomly cause issues without being able to limit them to a certain CPU model.
