The disparity of his position between the photos makes it look like he backed up, assuming of course, that the wide shot was taken first.

The disparity of his position between the photos makes it look like he backed up, assuming of course, that the wide shot was taken first.

He didn't back up as much as the first tank tried to get around him and he again moved into it's path.    Hence the two different "lanes" if you will.

Great pictures Karaya.  Just last week was trying to explain that event to my ol' lady.  Now I have pics to show her thx to you. :salute

No problem Ranjah.  I never knew about the wide angle shot until I accidentally happened across it.    I also didn't intend on the double post as the first one locked up Chrome.

Someone asked about my original pic and another posted a link.   I merely tried to go a step further in that person's direction and post the wide angle which is astounding and still remember that whole thing unfolding during the 2nd semester of my Sophomore year of HS.

I would easily go with Apollo 11, as opposed to the OP's.

Except the picture that XxDaSTaRxx posted is heavily photo shopped. You cannot see Earth in the original.

The Tiananmen Square picture is no doubt fantastic; and arguably, as equally powerful as the picture I first posted.
But, when you judge as photograph, you have to take in all the elements that make up the greatness as a whole. Where I believe the Apollo 8 pic trumps all others contenders with equal profoundness, and symbolism, is this: the Apollo 8 photo is downright artistic in its layout. You have the foreground, which is the barren desert of gray lunar rock and sand. Then, isolated against the pure black of deep space, is an oasis of color, the Earth. Simply put, it's perfect.

Here is another shot, but gives you the full scope of what One Person can do:

(Image removed from quote.)

everybody talks about what 1 person can do.  you can see more than that.  you can see the tank driver refusing to run him over, you can see the gunner not shooting him down, or the tank commander perhaps telling the driver to go around him.  perhaps the man was telling them to stop and go back and the tank crew yelling him to move or he will die.

one thing is for sure, that man had guts and in a way, i think the tank crews did too.  I am pretty sure none of them were alive soon after.
