I'm building a pc and wanted to know if a hard drive(unwiped,Win XP is on it) from a former pc can be used. If so, can it be combined with an SSD ?

Depending on the "type" of drive the answer is yes to both questions.
If the drive is an old ide drive you may have troubles but if it's a sata drive then it's not an issue at all. I have 1 comp with 3 drives in it because I took two drives out of an even older comp.
My gaming machine has an SSD and a Sata2 drive, the 1TB sata is used to store stuff and the SSD has th OS on it.
