Smoke
« on: January 04, 2014, 08:02:32 PM »
I wish Storch smoke blew downwind like regular tank-laid smoke.

For that matter smoking objects (hangers, radar, etc.) should also have their smoke blow downwind.

And why exactly does a destroyed radar tower smoke anyway?

Just a few tweaks would add a lot more realism.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Why do the flames reach 90 feet into the air? Why is the smoke always black? Why does an empty hangar burn at all?

These are the questions that keep me awake at night.

If hangers and radar towers didnt burn and smoke somebody would make a thread wishing they did.

I have been working with "smoke" recently in Blender....

trying to create a fire breathing Dragon.....

holy crap smoke is a huge FPS killer, so bad, I don't think I can actually get it to run good on my system and will have to use, images instead of a particle system.  :bhead

this one I started the smoke on, utilizing what is called a "particle system"...

any AAA game uses particle systems for smoke...water falls....dust...rain....hell even grass can be made....sux my 2.9 GHZ duel core turns into a slide show when I turn on a PS....

I am slowly getting better at topology...this guy here has 5069 verts :rock

I put together what I thought was the second best PC two years ago, 30 inch monitor with the whole 9 yards. When I look at a hanger on fire my FPS drops to the teens. My PC right now is the top of the line, I look into a fire in Aces my PC crashes.
I cannot figure out what causes my PC to go nuts when looking at fire in aces, usually its 60fps in every situation except fire/smoke. Most bran new games the graphics don't even flinch, but in aces fire/smoke just cause it to go nuts, such a loss in FPS makes the game unbearable to even play.

im pretty sure HTC uses animated textures for fire and smoke....actually I am positive they do...it must have something to do with that.
