I recently engaged a Ki43 at about or below 3k and got an odd result. He stalled out and I put a solid burst into him with 4x.50's. I saw parts of his plane come off and he began to smoke. He went into what appeared to be an uncontrolled drop straight down and I was relatively sure I got him. I pulled away, assuming that he was probably dead. I anticipated the number of seconds it would take for him to hit the ground, but I received no confirmation of the kill, nor did I score an assist. When I looked back he was nowhere to be seen, but a few moments later I spotted another Ki43, presumably the same pilot, showing no smoke and flying very low on the deck as if he had just taken off from the base below us. That Ki43 disappeared and reappeared (discoed and re-logged) at least once during the combat.
My question is this: what happens if you take fatal damage but you are disco'ed before you crash? Does the opposing pilot get the kill, or is it simply recorded as a crash?
Unfortunately I do not have film of the incident.
