Its a pull through. metal drops down barrel from breach end, section of cleaning cloth is put in the loop and you pull it through the bore. Better than a cleaning rod because it doesn't scratch the bore. Problems arise if your piece of cloth is too big and gets wedged. Cleaning cloth rolls are graduated so you only tear off the right amount 
Now that actually makes a lick of sense, Just don't see a need for three feet of rope, sure it's a Nagant, But it's not that big
