Gun sight issue
« on: January 24, 2014, 09:50:24 AM »
In addition to the default gun sights, I've downloaded several others to the sights folder. At one point, the new ones were available in the game (prefs>gunsights>) Now they aren't. Any idea how to get them back in-game? All I have access to are the default sight.

Max just download a package like Bustr's historical then put the unzipped stuff in the "Sights" folder.

Bustr explains it here.

Max,

Try renaming the sights folder to sightbak. Create a new sights folder and copy everything into it. Or check the permissions on the aces high default.bmp and compare that to the gunsights not showing up.

What operating system are you running on that PC?

All of the sights that appear in the game are 256x256 8 bit files. The P51d file showed as a 128x128 24 bit file. I used Irfanview to increase the size to 256 but I'm unable/unsure as to changing the 24 bit value to 8.

I'm running Win7 64

Bustr ~

I created the sightbak folder the day when you suggested it...forgot to mention it.

I just made the color depth change on the p51bmp from 24 to 8.

Apples to apples -

In my sights folder, the default gunsight shows as 256x256 8 bit. The p51 gunsight has the same values. I deleted the original sights folder, created a new one and copy/pasted all the sightbak info over to the new sights folder...the sightbak folder still exists.

Again, the default and p51 both share the same values. And again, while I have access to the default gunsight (and a few others) in-game, the p51 doesn't appear.

Frustrating to say the least. I'm still missing a piece of the puzzle, it seems.

Gunsight bitmaps

8bit

128x128 black mask
256x256 black mask
512x512 black mask<--- also needs a size control file with 256 in it. Why my packages have a gunsight.bmp and gunsight.mil as a pair that need to be copied to the sights folder together.

I use Paint.net freeware to build my gunsights. You can use it to save as and change the bitmap depth to 8bit, or create a new 128x128 or 256x256 black mask file. Save it as and 8bit bitmap. Then copy your gunsight onto it.

Magenta background gunsights don't show up for me on my machine when I try to pick them from the list. I see the name but, only a light blue blank box in the preview.
