Don't think I know enough about this to pull it off,  looking at a gateway instead dx4870-ur3d,
Hoping I can get that a card and a PSU and start flying.
gateway is owned by acer computers now. as bad if not worse than hp, dell for having parts that cannot be replaced off the shelf.

if you really want to get a retail box, it's best to get one with as much high performance parts as you can at the time of the order. otherwise, go to a store that carries them, find a model that fits the specs you want and look at the insides. then you can look for the same model online and see if you can get a lower price.

you cant start buying a computer here.  http://www.ibuypower.com/ .   later you can upgrade it once you feel comfortable doing it.  it's really not that big of a deal.  just be aware of one thing.  once you build your own computer, then you are really messed up.  you will never be happy with it and you will want to take it apart every other week.  every day you will be looking for some new hardware that you can afford to make it better.  it's like a drug I tell ya :).

Just got word from my local PC boys that my new system is ready.  Taking my existing PC in on Saturday so they can transfer files and should be up and running Saturday, 2/8, if not before.  Worked with the guys, specified components, upgraded their usual Corsair 600 W PSU to a Corsair 750 PSU based on the advice from this board.  Screaming Nvidia GTX 770 card with 4GB Ram, 16 GB Ram on the system, I7-4771 3rd generation quad core cpu at 3.5 ghz, 500 GB SS drive (I currently have 37GB stored on a 150 GB hard drive).  They worked with me every step of the way.  The system is coming stripped down, Windows 7 64 bit home Premium, MS Office 2010 (transferred from my existing system) and that's it.  Anything else, I put on.  No more 58 processes on start up because Dell said so.

I strongly recommend you find a local shop with a good rep.  My brother tried to talk me into doing it myself, but this is faster and less frustrating.  I'll be downloading AH with the hi res pack and playing with the settings to get the most eye candy at the highest framerate (monitor is 60) possible.  Can't wait.  Haven't played in a long time for a lot of reasons, some of which is that my old XPS system just can't cut it anymore.  Hence the new build. Good luck.

Picked my system up today.  Just as we discussed.  Maxed out all the eye candy on Aces High, running at top FR.  And, the system is quiet as a ghost, running cool as ever.  Get a local shop with a good rep or build it yourself.  There is no substitution.  Of course, I didn't save my HOTAS settings so that'll take a few days to figure out, but whatever.  I'm running, I'm flying on AH and I love it.  Good luck!
