Drop Tank
« on: February 02, 2014, 04:19:06 PM »
Ok, so I was reading and came across an article that said early American drop tanks were not pressurized, and therefore would not work at higher altitudes, but later on this was fixed. Do the earlier model planes' drop tanks work no matter what, or are they affected by this? Also, if we have fuel fires and damage, then could we also have drop tank damage/explosions/leaks?  :salute

I'm curious about this one.  I thought they had electric pumps so pressurization was irreverent.  I could be wrong though

I don't believe any of the early drop tanks were pressurized.

I'm all for DT fuel leaks. And explosions, as well as failure.

If 17's can have engine fires.

That would not be a lovely sight.

What a lousy wingman, the second B-17 isn't even firing on the 109 that has torched the lead B-17.
