Better Downloads Server
« on: February 09, 2014, 02:01:43 PM »
It takes 10 minutes to download 10MB terrain.

The downloads speed is about 20KB/s which is very low (my internet speed is ~190KB/s

Even a simple virtual server in Amazon would greatly improve the situation.

Thanks

It is NOT HTC's servers, it YOUR connection. I just downloaded the same 10 meg file and I got it in 2:45 at just over 60kbs

Until the infrastructure is repaired over the next few months due to the storms you WILL have issues, NONE of which HTC has any control over.

Download for example this file: http://cppcms.com/files/makeahmap/makeahmap_v0.6.zip

2.2 MB, took me 2.8 seconds including connect/start program etc. Speed was 1.08 MB/s

Micro Amazon instance in Ireland, costs me $15 a month

I got about the same, with a 20 hop run.

I'm wondering if its a cost issue? As an on line company they must have a secure, reliable system to maintain their company, maybe your server type isn't "tried and true" enough to bet the company on. Don't know, but the DL speeds they have aren't that big a deal, unless you hit a bad hop that is dealing with issues. I don't see 2 minutes for a 10 meg file an issue.
