There must be some beer makers or beer experts on this topic.  Why is it that beer on tap tastes so much better than the same brand in a bottle?

Draft beer is not pasteurized, beer that is intended for bottling has to undergo pasteurisation. This means that the finished brew is heated to kill off any bacteria that may grow between the time of bottling and the time of consumption.

I only know this because I have a guy who works for me tinkering with some medical weed infused beers for us to sell.

I wouldn't have figured it would change the taste that much, but obviously it does.

IPA's are typically more hoppy, and the older you get, the less taste buds you produce, thus old farts can handle beers you young boys cannot.

A lot has to do with the pressurization and the freshness. I used to go a German joint where i knew the owner and the bartenders and they used to tell me when, and what kind, of Beer they just tapped. They were Germans so they never let their Beer sit around to long and NEVER in the light. Another thing, "Light" cant get into a keg and light can ruin beer. Also they always kept their kegs in a cooler.

Working in a super market we used to get big deals on sale Beer and lots of it would end up sitting for weeks and months in the back. An interesting sight http://differenttypesofbeer.com/ There are really only two types of Beers. I still dabble in Ales but im mostly a Lager guy, specifically Pilsners.

The really big deal with Beer is its freshness. Micros control their output and distribution, as well as lovingly make smaller batches, and you get the stuff to table quicker. Most of them are sold at high out put micro beer stores so again they arent sitting on the shelf long and are probably locally made. Again assuring freshness. Hell Ive had Bud and Pabst right out of the brewers vat and they were delicious. When I was over seas the brewery was right outside the base and I still crave that stuff.

Then again there havnt been a whole lot of Beers I didnt like. What matters but your own taste buds?

To add to what Rich posted, back in the old days Mexico used to bottle all their beer (or imported beer) in clear glass and rarely kept it out of the sunlight, something abundant in the south near the equator.

Their beer would spoil and give you the craps pretty fast, even locals, so the tradition of putting lime into beer was born, as the acidic lime juice would kill off bacteria (in theory).

I'm a big craft brew fan which works out great as there is a plethora of them here in Maine. I prefer a good pale ale - Sierra Nevada's being one of my favorites!

I'm in redneckville...If it's not Bud, Miller, Coors, etc... the bars don't carry (unless it's a pretty good size bar).  I'm a Coors man myself (I prefer the Banquet beer, but Light will suffice).  I forgot which of the IPAs I tried, but I thought it was awful.  I've been drinking a little Yuengling Lager lately and find it to be to my liking.  I've also tried Sierra Nevada, and like it as well.

All in all, when it comes down to it, just give me a Colorado Koolaid!

great beer my 2nd favotitte after Labatt Blue Litte; i have both most of the time in my fridge. I moved to Canada in" 99 with European beer preferences like Amstel,Heineken, Stela Artois, but after awhile I realized the Canadian beer is more refreshing,taste great.

I never had an Eddie Fitz yet but they do make a lager, I forget the name, that is very good GLB is a fine brewry.

Bells makes a very nice dark called Kalamazoo. I still have some upstairs. This is a nice stout http://www.kentuckyale.com/kentucky-bourbon-barrel-stout I still have a few bottles upstairs.

Im quite fond of Lagunitas, most of all their Pilsner but they do specialize in Ales. They are a California company but are opening a new brewry tap room close to work this spring  http://lagunitas.com/category/new-brewhouse/# I like ALL their stuff. 3Floyds is opening up a new brew house due to demand, most of all for their Zombie Dust. Which around here is considered the Mona Lisa of Ale and extremely hard to find. http://www.3floyds.com/

A Brutha works hard and deserves to sip one or or two fine ones while bombing the crap out of cartoon stuff on his computer, wearing His jam jams. Thats my take on it. Drink whatcha like.

Location and income level definitely has an impact of how well microbrews sell in various parts of the country.

In around a 100 mile radius of where we live, every tavern or bar has various taps of beer such as pictured below in the foreground. Incidently, this particular bar set a Guiness book of world records several years ago for the largest burbon selection in the world. Not sure if that record still holds but Hitech would love it here.

I love two-hearted ale and Smuttynose IPA is my staple beer.  If you like those IPAs and you can get ahold of it I suggest giving Jai Lai IPA by Cigar City Brewing a try.  Had it when I was in Florida and it is up there as a favorite.
