LOL... I have always had a soft spot for them. Some of their non-hits are a whole lot of 'meh', but the one thing I like about them is they don't pretend to be anything they're not.
I happened to be listening to the radio when they were releasing Ball Breaker, and they were broadcasting the entire album with interviews and all that stuff. At one point they were talking to Angus, and he made the comment, "A lot of people have criticized us saying we've got twelve albums that all sound exactly the same. I want to set those people straight. We have thirteen albums that all sound exactly the same."
That I've seen, any overrating of them has come from outside, not themselves. Gotta like them for that. Bon and Brian both had their moments of awesome and 'meh' IMO. YMMV.
