I've tried to get AH to run on WineX (
www.transgaming.com) under linux.
The results are much better than expected!

The game graphics work fully, the networking works as well.
I have some problems with sound and performance, which I think HTC can help :
The performance of the game is about 2 times slower than under windows. I have a feeling this is because it tried to mix all of those 3d sound streams in software.
Maybe more options could be added to AH that would allow turning off 3D sound effects, or turning off sound altogether?
Also, I'm having trouble getting my joystick to work. I've got linux support for my joystick device, (works in linux games), and I see that AH is picking up the "Wine Joystick" DirectInput device, but it doesn't see any of my joystick movement. (Tried recalibrating, no go.) I'm not sure whose fault that is
Anyway, linux support could easily be achieved I think by working around some of these minor bugs -- the main graphics / net support is there and working. I hope HTC can lend a hand with some simple tasks here (i.e. turning off 3d sound option, etc.)
BTW, if anyone needs help setting up their WineX to try, I'd be glad to help.
You can pull it from CVS and compile it yourself if you don't want to subscribe to TransGaming for the binary releases : here are the instructions :
